May 2020, Flying a BGD Punk ML (90/110) at approximatively 110kg.
A knot in my strings almost brought me to the trees.
00:03 I inflate the glider to take off with a quick control. I cannot see any problem here.
00:09 I start running to take off, the shadow is a early indication that something was wrong.
00:15 The gliders directly goes to the right heading straigt to the trees. Why ? There is no apparent reason !
00:21 Strong counter on the left and also a strong pull on the left side break. (I cannot tell if i should have pulled less to avoid a potential stall issue) As i am stupid and love to play with trees, i try to touch the one i just avoided. No logic here, pure stupidity only.
00:28 The glider continues to pull to the right, at this point i have three options. I can try to land to the left but it is steep and it will get me in the trees. On the right side, I would have the wind in my back and a difficult landing due to the steep field. It is a high risk of injury for me at this time. Last option finally, going straight parallel to the barrier which would have been the best option.
00:48 I am convinced that this direction issue is coming from the harness set up, as I have been training a lot today with 360/SATs mainly on the same side. in my opinion there is no reason why the glide ratio should be worse than usual if issue comes from harness. So i continue to be mistaken in thinking i will clear the trees.
01:07 I counter on the left again and adding a lot of brake, hopefully no stall.
01:28 Trees cleared, I check above my head and find nothing wrong, it can only be the harness I am now sure of it !
01:40 So here i start checking my harness. Where did my settings move ?
01:53 The thermal is good here, however i chose not to take it and to focus on my flight to avoid further issues... At the end, i check again my harness. What is happening ?
02:20 Here you are ! Issue identified... Yes it took me too long and no, it is not the harness. My bad ! Time to pull lines to try to release the knot.
02:33 Finally the solution is to pull the break and the issue is fixed, hopefully without accident.
