In this transcendental performance, virtuoso percussionist Tlale Makhene takes the TEDxSoweto 2012 audience into a parallel universe where primordial sounds and the beat of the drum are the only words spoken.
Tlale Makhene is a sought after SAMA Award winner, teacher, session musician, director and performer. He has toured with Keiko Matsui and performs on her new album. During the 46664 concerts, Tlale performed with Pharaoh Sanders, Corrine Bailey, Angelique Kidjo and Jamalia and at a World Economic Forum concert led by Caiphus Semenya, directed by Quincy Jones. Tlale directed the Tihlabani Awards ceremony, Zone6 Games, the Coca-Cola World Cup Trophy in Swaziland and the jazz festival for SwaziExpo.
About TEDx
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
