Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III (1960-2021) is the 15th President of the Philippines who served from June 30, 2010, to June 30, 2016. He was the third and only son of former Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. (1932-1983) and former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino (1933-2009). He died on June 24, 2021 (450th founding anniversary of Manila) at 6:30 am due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. He was 61. PNoy is the second president who died in the 21st century and the second president who cremated the remains (next to Elpidio Quirino in 2016).
“Parangal sa Pangulo” is the official hymn of the Philippine President composed by Lt. Col. Xavier C. Celestial (QMS) of the Philippine Army. It was first played on December 21, 2012 during the 77th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines at the time of then President Noynoy Aquino. It is being played during the arrival honor of the President and right after the quadruple times playing of “Ruffles and Flourishes” - the honor that is only given by the Philippine military to the Head of State. It has official lyrics in Filipino which are as follows:
“Pangulo ng bansang Pilipinas
Kaming lahat ay nagpupugay
Mamamayan at sa buong sambayanan
Ika’y magsisilbing gabay
Ang hiling namin kay Bathala
Basbasan ang Pangulo naming pinagpala
Upang bansang Pilipinas
Kaunlaran, kapayapaan ay makamtan.”
I was inspired to make this video based on the BBC announcement on the demise of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg on April 9, 2021.
Thank you very much, President Aquino. You are mission accomplished! You may rest in peace.
