Fidel Valdez Ramos (1928-2022) is the 12th President of the Philippines who served from June 30, 1992, to June 30, 1998. He was a war veteran, military, engineer, writer and statesman. He was the cousin of former President Ferdinand E. Marcos (1917-1989). He died on July 31, 2022 due to complication of COVID-19. He was 94. FVR is the third president who died in the 21st century and the third president who cremated the remains (next to Elpidio Quirino in 2016 and Benigno Aquino III in 2021).
“Parangal sa Pangulo” is the official hymn of the Philippine President composed by Lt. Col. Xavier C. Celestial (QMS) of the Philippine Army. It was first played on December 21, 2012 during the 77th anniversary of the Armed Forces of the Philippines at the time of then President Noynoy Aquino. It is being played during the arrival honor of the President and right after the quadruple times playing of “Ruffles and Flourishes” - the honor that is only given by the Philippine military to the Head of State. It has official lyrics in Filipino which are as follows:
“Pangulo ng bansang Pilipinas
Kaming lahat ay nagpupugay
Mamamayan at sa buong sambayanan
Ika’y magsisilbing gabay
Ang hiling namin kay Bathala
Basbasan ang Pangulo naming pinagpala
Upang bansang Pilipinas
Kaunlaran, kapayapaan ay makamtan.”
I was inspired to make this video based on the BBC announcement on the demise of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburg on April 9, 2021.
Thank you very much, President Ramos. May you rest in peace.
