A friend of mine is a C5 incomplete and he needed help learning how to transfer into his car because there were a few times when he fell while attempting to transfer while he was high on drugs and he needed to learn the proper technique to transfer into the car so that he wouldn’t fall while transferring. Thanks for the video!

hey this is colin. sorry took me so long to respond. I was a passenger in a car accident when I was 16, im 19 now. The chair is Ti Lite ZRA and is 16 inches wide and 20 inches long. 25" spinergy wheels. Carbon fiber 10" back rest. Anymore questions and ill answer them quicker.

Hi, sorry to hear about your father. The specific model that I use is a Tilite ZRA. There are a lot of chairs on the markert that you would be able to get in and out of a car. Some are even more portable than mine, for instance Tilite also makes a folding chair. Most any chair in the "Ultralight" category will work. My advice is to get a chair that meets your needs and keep it AS LIGHT as possible. Then start playing around with how to get it in and out of the car, there are lots of ways.

hey joe, Yeah that is due to the cushion being in the way. If I took the cushion off the backrest WOULD be able to fold completly flat. I really like the ZRA, its nice and adjustable.

Glad I found this video. I will be relearning how to drive as a paraplegic this summer. Im told I have to go to a special school to learn how to use the hand controls..Did you have to go to a driving school for that?

Colin, I want to thank you for the video. My father recently had an accident and can no longer use his knees properly. He still has some mobility in his legs and will probaby be able to drive. His concern is getting his wheelchair in and out of the car. You made it look easy! Where did you get such a portable chair that disassembles so easily? Is there a name for that style of chair?

Hey, I want to say that my front angle is either 90 or 95 degrees. As for the cushinon I am using a Stimu Lite. It is lightweight and easy to clean, but im not too sure about its pressure relief. I have only had it about 8 months, I think i might go back to a Roho air cushion. The best way to find a cushion is to get pressure mapped on the cushion and try it out for a while if possible.

Hi guys Colin Buchanan here. this is NOT the colours az1 but rather the Z4. It is for sale at Sportaid.com I actually have a set of the AZ1 by colours as a backup set...they dont even come close to the z4...they may look better but im terms of function, they are terrible! The Z4 (featured in the video) has never failed me!

hi colin this is joe, thanks for the video,it's very helpful and instructive actually i almost decided to get a zra, but i saw yours, the seat back is not totally folding, is it cz u have some kind of cushion? i think if it folds all over the seat, the chair will become more compact, am i right? so does it fold to the end or this is its limit? i'm ordering a Seat Back Height - Folding, Adj-Ht. w/Push Handles and it's a little bit higher than yours, that's y I'm asking thanks in advance

Colin, I saw your comment from six years ago that said the Z4 is better than AZ1. Do you feel that this is still correct? I ask because I am in the market to buy my first set of Portable hand controls and I want to buy the set that will keep me safest when driving.

Hey Joe. I am sorry to hear that you are having a difficult time getting yourself a chair. Both weight and size are big factors in buying a chair. I know what you mean about not being able to try before you buy, I often find myself in a similar situation when researching adaptive equipment. My advice would be to try and get the lightest chair that you can afford.

I'm going to give you the website where I have gotten chairs off of before. Take a look at the "Ultralight" section. I am not sure what they can offer you in terms of inter national business but at least you can see the chairs and find out what weight and size they are. Kevo is right Joe, everyone has a different style of doing their transfers into cars, try and play around with it to see what works the best for you.

Hey i have a invicare crossfire with a folding back but when i put it into my car i leave the back up. I also put my chair in the front seat. there are tons of ways to put your chair in a car you just have to find out the best way yourself. if i get around to it i will make a video to.

i really need an ultralight wheelchair, when i go out,i always have someone waiting for me to bring my heavy wheelchair from the trunk. here in lebanon, unfortunately, i couldn't find a tilite zra, so i couldn't try it, and it's an expensive investment for me, it will cost me around 4000$ to get it here without even seeing it,it's not easy to decide. i tried an invacare cuschall champion, it's very compact but so much heavier i guess,i don't know how u can help me,but i felt i wanted to tell u

Colours AZ-1 Portable Automotive Hand Control System and they cost $280. That's a lot cheaper than your average permanently mounted hand controls, which cost over $1000. This is by far the best way to go for hand control. You can order these without having to do a driving evaluation which will save you another $500-$1000 (which is INSANE!!!!!!!!). Why can a normal person take a driving test for under $20 and a handicapped person has to pay a ridiculous amount!?! I really do think it's absurd h
