I like how they took real life situations that family's go through and made them funny. This was better as a Sketch than what they did with Mamma's house , it got watered down somewhat after it was Just Vicky doing it with other people, plus she changed the way she played Momma on the spin off.

LOL!!! I remember a pinch like that from my grandmother when I wanted to act out in church, and that twist that will make you shut the hell up! Eunice was working on Thelma's last nerves, she got what was coming to her. Dame Maggie Smith is an extraordinary actress, Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series, the goddess Thetis in Clash of the Titans(1981), and so many other countless films she's played in. The tone of her voice when she Demands your undivided attention, priceless!!!

I LOVE "the family" skits. Maybe it's because there is a little of the situations in all of us, some more than others, of course. Carol Burnett is sheer genius as Eunice and despite myself I can't help but feel sorry for the character. Vicki & Harvey's character's are priceless, too. The spin-off "Mama's Family" isn't bad, but I could never get into it like "The Family" skits.

Agree! Thelma would never admit it, but she realized the mistakes she made with her own kids, especially Eunice. On Mama's Family, if we can connect the dots (and I think we can), Thelma took Ms. Collins' advice, and gave Bubba discipline mixed with encouragement and an occasional pat on the back!

One of the advantages of being over 50 was the opportunity to have seen THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW as it was airing first-run on CBS, especially since until recently, all that was available was the syndicated CAROL BURNETT and FRIENDS, which did a real hatchet- job on the original show.

@@cathybrown7559 Here's the CBS lineup for Saturday nights in the 1970's. 9:00 THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, 9:30 THE BOB NEWHART SHOW, 10:00 THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW. Carol's show was scheduled late in order to comply with the FCC ruling of the time that stated the 8-9PM hour program schedule be 'Family Shows'. It was known as 'The Family Hour'. Anyway, I couldn't be pried away from that two-hour block, possibly the best Saturday Night lineup of the 1970's.

@@terencedove5047 MASH was seen on Saturday only during its second season, 9/15/73-3/2/74 8:30 PM. The show jumped around to different nights during the remaining 10 seasons. Frequent schedule changes have been the demise of hundreds of shows that could had been potential hits. The networks are just too stupid to leave well enough alone. It says a lot for MASH that viewers were willing to follow it during its numerous schedule changes.

These sketches were just brilliant. The characters and of course, Carol, Vicki, Harvey and everyone else associated with this wonderful show. Just the banter between them about the chicken salad and Eunice's hair in the drawing really add to the sketch. Detail is important, and they really do it well here.

When the Eunice skits were running on the Burnett show I kept thinking "How'd they get Texas so spot on?" Only recently checked Wikipedia and found out she was born in San Antonio and based Eunice's accent on her mom's.

It took a little bit to actually Sink In that this was Maggie Smith. I recognized her voice rather Quickly as hers is a Very Distinctive Voice. Watching this was just Amazing. I LOVE Maggie Smith. You can tell when she sees them outside the door she knows she is in for one hell of a Test. Probably NEVER forgot this experience, either, though she probably Loved to be able to cut loose like that in a scene like this. Probably helped give her some of the Steel to play McGonagal so wonderfully well. She is an Amazing Actress and so wonderfully Talented. "Perhaps Mrs. Higgins would like to have time to think things over. It might be nice to take advantage of a little Breather."Wonderful Line.

I love this episode too. Reminds me in a way of what it felt like whenever in a public place while being introduced as only being someone's aunt or as being only their other sister when the rest of the time in all other places according to him it should be a far different story while he is the 'adult' in contrast being questioned about. I love being older now like the oldest mom in this skit because now I no longer am often thinking to myself, "Go ahead and take over if that is what you insist is best".
