Super Phantom was a significant upgrade over the former, Thrust-to-weight ratio of 1.04 vs .84. Over 1.0 plane can fly up 90° and still accelerate!! The new engines that helped with this were withheld from production by McDonnell Douglas so as to not create international competition with their F18C/D's, as well as other fourth gens (F15, F16).

Similar thing happening with the underwhelming F-35: LockMart is trying to supress upgraded versions of the F-15 and F-18 so as to promote their own flawed product.

Seeing the flight simulators graphics of 87 only available for airlines and airforces costing thousands and today's which some are free to download available to anyone the difference is incredible.

This is a great documentary, to bad they don't make documentaries like this at the Paris airshow anymore, they only show 2 or 3 minute clips. Thank you for taking time to upload this for us aviation junkies.

I thought I was the only person on Earth who had these 1987 Paris Airshow tapes. You rock, Phil! Do you happen to have the 1985 edition by McGraw-Hill? I have part 1 but haven’t been able to find part 2.

Unfortunately, I don't have the 1985 edition in my possession. Perhaps I could try to acquire it online (if it's factory sealed) and upload to KZitem at a later date. Feel free to check my other videos, since some of them are Air Shows ones too.

29:03 must be Billie Flynn’s demo. He went on to fly the first international F-35A demo 30 years later at Paris in 2017. These days he’s retired but man does he have some amazing things to say about the procurement and test process in the podcast circle. Check his guest appearances on the Afterburn and Fighter Pilot Podcasts.

Never fond of the aesthetics of British aircraft, but among trainers shown here, the Hawk is my choice for the cutie.

British Aerospace EAP. It is not a Typhoon, it is an unarmed technology demonstrator that was used to test and validate the aerodynamic concepts later used in the Typhoon.

That is a standard IAF Phantom . Not the proposal the narrator talks about.

Check the engines. It had the PW1120, clearly visible the metallic petals of the PW1120 (looks like an EJ200). The PW1120 is like a small version of the mighty F100, equal as the size relationship between the GE F110 and F404. Actually, the PW1120 was a size and performance competitor of the F404, but with a far less success on the market. On this video, you can see the far better take off performance by these engines than with the J79 ever had. And if it would be a standard IAF Phantom, you would see the J79's smoke trail as well.

Why does it say Super Phantom on the side? I think you were wrong.
