I wouldn't even go as far as to say this is design. Design has purpose, it serves a function. The human brain is hardwired to identify human figures with ease. This is the first Olympics that has lost the athletes, who are arguably as important as the sports they play--without them, there wouldn't be an Olympics. Pictograms are there to communicate, their purpose is to relay a message without words. When you lose purpose, you become decoration.

Horrendous execution, half of them are indecipherable and that’s while looking at them on a monitor, nevermind in the distance or at an angle. I wasnt' convinced at first because they did look a lot more confusing than all previous pictograms. But after a few months and looking at them more precisely, they're genious work ! The Tokyo 2020 were the direct opposite. Very clear, readable but I would never get a t-shirt with any of those pictograms. Meanwhile, Paris 2024 is going all in with the visuals. I mean, the venues speak for themselves as well as the opening ceremony... I also appreciate how those logos reflect some aspects of the sport very well. As a badminton player myself, I absolutely love how the logo emphasises the speed of the sport. I also love how surf looks like an exotic flower that you could find in Tahiti, where the competition is held ! ❤

While there are a few weaker ones, overall these pictograms are AWESOME. I think the majority of the pictograms depict the sport being played very well, I don't think removing the corporal factor makes these any less readable. There are some that could be left up for debate about how legible they are. What I also appreciate about these games is that both the Olympic and Paralympic games are being showcased at the same time with the same package.

These aren't pictograms at all... Sure, you could use them in TV animations and as a decorative element, but you cannot use these in signage, you cannot downscale them, you cannot identify them instantly and from afar, and you cannot call them a proper "icon". These are as chaotic as google logos. You can distinguish them if you look properly, but you have to actually make an effort.

This Olympics should be cancelled. More importantly any athlete that continues to compete and claims to have a moral compass or be Christian should be called out. You cannot be Christian, or frankly any Muslim and Buddhist in good standing, and allow this. This is not in the Olympic spirit nor in the mandate, and this Olympics should be cancelled. This is where athletes should stand in solidarity.
