This Parker pen definitely gets a thumbs up from me! For those who are wondering, the Parker family ceased being involved with the Parker Pen Company in the 1980s when the company was bought by a UK management team. I often wonder what the company would be like today if it was still run by the Parker family.

Thanks! I used to like Parkers; some of my early pen journey pens included the Duofold (international and later Centennial Greenwich) and a clutch of vintage models (mostly vacuumatics with a few 51's). Glad to see this one is considered pretty good though I find the price on the high side for a steel nib, cartridge/converter in an aluminum bodied pen.

The Parker Vector was the first fountain pen I ever owned (bought one in high school by accident when I was trying to buy a ballpoint--at Walmart, no less...still weird to think about Walmart selling fountain pens), so the company has a special place in my heart. I'm guessing that my opinion would be different if I were to write with one now, but man, as a high schooler I never felt more sophisticated when I took one of those out in high school and the teacher complimented it.

The price is the only thing that sounds wrong to me. I thought that you had said 160 usd, 260 is too much. IIRC the diplomat aero costs around 160, and it is a metal anodized pen as well with an excellent nib. Apart from that I think it's very good for everyone having companies trying to get back with good pens.

I'm likely a sappy fountain pen idiot, but I feel good to see Parker getting some good review response. I've always had an admiration for Parker as a manufacturer, even if some of their products of late have been very disappointing. Two models I absolutely adore. The Duo-Fold is the 1st "real" fountain pen I purchased back in the 1980's, and I found the Ellipse (made in France) just stunning. Maybe I'm just a sucker.

David, nice review as always! I seem to wonder the new Ingenuity FP feed has a sharp resemblance to my Waterman Phileas and the newly released Waterman Embleme. Think this is no coincidence as both Parker and Waterman brands are owned by Newell. Just extending that thought, the shape of nib is also a departure from the shape Parker is known to have and have similarity with Waterman. That being said I love their Sonnets, 75 and Insignia collection and also believe the new Ingenuity has potential to firmly place Parker back again amongst the top spot.

There's the Parker 51 Vacumatic used for the peace treaty in France after WWII in a French museum (don't remember what one right now) and the 1926 Parker Duofold "Big Red" Junior (MacArthur's wife's pen he requested for his use. The Japanese were required to use "lesser" pens) was stolen from his wife's hotel room several years later. Today, sadly, the brand seems to have lost its way. The only models that seems well liked today are the Duofold lines. Sad they discontinued the 45 in 2008. A traditionally "student" design, they introduced the cartridge converter system Parker still uses in 1960, they're 1960s/70s in slimness and overall design, but like plenty of hot rods, a well thought out, modern design "under the hood." Will say that the steel nib options seem better than the gold nibbed options, in some people's views, though I have had both in several sizes, with no issues. A really nice "vintage" pen that you can still get for some great prices (for several years, about $15-20 USD from India, through today.) They were the Presidential pen from JFK and LBJ until the Clinton era, when LT Cross took over. It's nice when a heritage brand releases something nice.😊

I have a Parker IM ballpoint pen which I use for everyday writing and I like it a lot. Getting refills is easy. I like ballpoint pens but I think they're limited a bit. Like underlining in books, they don't work well for me. I had a Waterman I liked a lot; somehow I lost it. 🤨

I agree that it looks overpriced for a steel nib pen. I use a Parker Duofold Big Red Lucky Curve from 1926, it is reliable and a good writer - just like Parker advertised it to be 98 years ago. With Quick in it, of course.

As a European, I am not really "crazy" about Parker. I possess two Duofolds the Big Red, and an older one from the '80. The older one gets dry very fast the Big Red has hard starts I will have to open it because very often they have some residues around the feed.

@thorhilda

So Parker has finally come to terms with the fact that "Parker 5th technology refills" are a failure. Now they are just acting like the Ingenuity has always been a normal fountain pen, not the strange device of a rod with fins sticking out of a metal cartridge. It was just an overpriced rollerball, masquerading as a fake nib. Now all the saps who bought the previous Ingenuity can toss their 150$ pens in the trash as the cartridges are being discontinued.

Or you can refill the cartridge with a syringe. I love my Parker IM, it has the best medium nib I've ever used. The feed is perfectly balanced with absolutely no hard starts when you have the converter. So I don't get why people diss parker so much. I used Kaweco. Lamy,Jinhao, TSWBI, Sailor and pilot pens. A couple points that I find interesting about this new Parker: 1. The nib and feed appear to be the same as the now discontinued Parker Premier (MkIII), which as another poster pointed out is a Waterman design used on several pens including the Waterman L'Etalon, Phileas etc. 2. This to me is Parker's mid-tier replacement for the Premier (something that will sit between the basic Sonnet and new 51 and the the 18kt gold nib Sonnets and Duofolds). I do wonder if this new Parker is made in France or China? I'm guessing the later as I didn't see a place of origin marked on the pen.

Great review; given the "genius" idea of naming it exactly as an existing Parker non fountain pen, I had no idea it existed. Unfortunately given the Sonnet and new 51 debacles I would question the basics (will it dry out in record time like the Sonnet? Nib and body coating durability) which doesn't bode well for a $200+ pen.

The only modern Parker pens that I own and care about are the Centennial and International models. This Ingenuity model looks fairly decent and maybe worth having in the collection. But good grief for the ridiculous price. I mean, $260 for this pen just prove that the Parker people are gratuitously greedy and/or just plain naive and out of touch with a majority of the fountain pen loving community.
