I have noticed that Rolex homages/copies/knock-offs are judged a lot more harshly than homages to other brands. Maybe it's because Rolex is the defacto 'luxury' brand that everyone knows, maybe because those who saved or could otherwise afford a Rolex feel defensive that someone else can 'jack thier swagger' without the fiscal input... IDK. I own an Steinhart OVM36 which is an homage to a $120k 1970's british milsub, which I justify with the fact that I want to stay married and still have that look of that watch on my wrist. I have a buddy who owns an OMEGA speedmaster- he called out my Steinhart as a 'Rolex wannabe' - I was thrilled to smugly point out that his Speedy was a direct 1:1 copy of a 1954 Rodania Geometer that predated his speedy by 4 years. He didn't give a 'poop' (lookin' out for you Rob), but it still felt good. I also own some high end swiss pieces- Explorer II, Seamaster, and my favorite watch of all time a vintage Heuer Autavia, and am always excited to ask about another guy's watch- even if it's a Parnis. At least he knows what he likes. Not everyone can afford the price of a mid/high-end Swiss watch such as a Rolex, and to hate on those who want a certain look, or just to take part in the watch culture is just snobby-gatekeeping.

The thing to remember is...if it looks good, feels good, works good and lasts good....Then it is good! Now these won't last or work as good as a Rolex, true, but they are 100 times cheaper (more affordable). Just let that sink in. Also you can wear these without fear and enjoy them. 316 stainless steel is the same whatever you pay for it. These movements are respectable and solid end links, ceramic bezels and sapphire? Seiko take note. Paris didn't create the need for these. The luxury brands did with their ridiculously exclusive price tags which are quite frankly obscene. I'm an industrial designer and let me tell you if you charged £3000 for a submariner you'd be making good margins. They're charging 12-15.....! Quite mad.

Whatever your feelings about "homage" watches and Parnis itself, I find their upfront Mission Statement commendable. They effectively give you the breakdown of watch manufacturing practices. If you're interested: "Our Mission" Swiss grade mechanical watches, for 2% of their price. No marketing gimmicks. No celebrity endorsements. No abusive markups. Did you know that a 7,000 USD swiss watch costs less than 80 USD to manufacture? According to COSC (Swiss most prestigious Horological institute), Rolex manufactured over 1,2 Million pieces in 2017, increasing their highly automated processes and technology, and creating little to no human interaction along the manufacturing process. We often ask, "Why is a Mass-manufactured product (in millions of units) sold as an ultra-luxury item, when its actual cost is no more than just a few dollars a piece"? Did you know that 40% of "Swiss Made", is actually made in Asia? Under Swiss Law, Swiss manufacturers are allowed to outsource 40% of their production overseas (in countries such as China or Thailand), and still label their products as "Swiss Made".
I mean that's just false. Even the man hours spent doing QC on rolex and omega watches would far exceed $80. I'm not even a Swiss made fan boy, in fact I'm wearing a cadisen right now. I just hate seeing bullshit info being stated as facts.

They offer sapphire crystals, solid end links, ceramic bezel inserts, screw links and milled clasps. I think the Parnis can give the Invicta Pro-Diver a run for the money. Just an excellent value for your money, sapphire crystal, and ceramic bezel for a little over $100. You don't find too many watches which offers these features for twice the price. My Parnis Daytona, since it's a meca-quarts movement runs very accurately @ +0.2 s/d. My Parnis Pepsi GMT runs not that good at +16s/d. You can also lift the bezel of my Parnis GMT just enough to see the ratchet mechanism inside, but my bezel turns just fine even without pressing down on it. I think both the bracelets on the Daytona and GMT are trash, but I have a lot of straps that I can use to replace it. over all, I'm happy with both my purchases and despite the cons, is still an excellent value for your money.

Seiko has the SBTR013, which is a Rolex Daytona homage. The bracelet on the seiko is different, but everything else is very close to a Daytona design. Just putting the info out there because they are $160 at the moment, and they're 100m WR, unlike Parnis 3atm.

Great review. The only thing I disagree with is I do think they are “great” watches. Just because they aren’t hundreds or thousands of dollars doesn’t mean you don’t get a quality time piece. I have the Parnis white panda Daytona and have much more expensive watches and haven’t taken this off the wrist since I got it.

Hi Rob, I have 4 Parnis watches, including these 2 models & seriously they punch well above their weight! I wouldn't push the water resistance component but aesthetically they look a lot more expensive than they are. In my opinion how can you go wrong???...

The second hand is sweeping on the GMT, it is NOT a quartz movement.
@rodpanhard
4 жыл бұрын
It's a mechaquartz movement, the small subdial has a ticking quartz second hand but the sweeping hand is mechanical. Apparently some of the Parnis watches use a Seiko VK63 movement. I say some because also apparently there are similar watches being made in different regions and the specs are slightly different.

Its simple for me i like the design of some Rolex times pieces but I dont want to fork out 7 to 10k for a watch, i put that on a deposit for a house (real life goals). hats off to Parnis them for being able to give us all the awesome features for sub $100. I own a Pepsi GMT and i use it as a beater watch, its a TANK!

Curious if you think the Parnis GMT is better than the Tisell Subs? Seems cheaper.
@AntZucaro

I own both the Parnis Batman GMT and the Tisell Kermit Marine Diver. The Kermit wins hands down - actual WR to 200m, glide lock bracelet, Miyota 4hz "smooth sweep" movement, and much MUCH better lume. I still love the Batman though, it is amazing value for the money. I bought it to learn how to regulate autos and in that regard it has been a huge success! It keeps to within 5s per day after some tuning. Amazing!

Parnis makes some great watches for the money. Just don't buy them from parnis.org because there are rip off site. I ordered a watch that was specifically stated to be yellow gold and when it arrived it was rose gold totally changing the aesthetics. They would not refund or exchange the watch, shocking. I opened up a dispute with eBay and prevailed of course but had to eat the $58 and shipping back to Hong Kong. I couldn't believe they refused to make good after sending me a watch I did not order.
