Good workflow. Though I usually cut the corners by using more automated approach, I doubt you can achieve the same realistic result using hair particle systems. This is the case when taking the time by manual placing and tweaking individual hair cards makes the model look very good.

Hi. Good tutorial. Thanks. I recreated 3 feathers, like you showed in this video, but... I have no idea how to create small fearhers, because they are too complicated and different in my opinion. Could you please tell any details/params for the small feathers creation.

This is really good! My only critique is that feathers are asymmetrical, so for an authentic looking feather, say if someone is making just one or a few that will be very visible, you should make sure one side is a little wider than the other. edit: nm you did do it for the flight feathers

I have to say that I don't get the same results at 2:20 despite doing the exact same thing. The hair spread out unevenly in his version but evenly in mine. No matter the Blender Version. I found out that he had made a change without showing it.

Late response, but for anyone else with issues, while i cant 1 for 1 make what is being done here, i found two major things. 1 check your normals, make sure they are facing the right direction, two i found that hair going over the tip at the top is very much influenced by the height of the 'cone' tip you create on the stem, so shortening that can help as it seems to not do it if its two tall. Also be aware that if you pole is in a different orientation then in this video, you have to scale different directions (Watch and match the Axis tool in the top right if you want to avoid doing this.)

Using vertex groups doesnt create a hard falloff on weight paint. I tried using the VertexWeightEdit modifier and changing the falloff to be sharp.. i've also tried weight painting but it's not working either. How did you isolate the weights for the particle system to ONLY those faces that are in the vertex group? I've spent a lot of time trying to figure this out
