I've done ccv system, now it's pass time to have timing chain replaced but I'm totally scared I'll mess up n I currently don't have or can't afford a decent mechanic that being said I'm going to watch your skills and try to find a little help wish me luck cause I'm going need it

Question. So I recently replaced the timing chain guides on my m54 since mine were broken. Somehow the chain got bumped a tooth on the crank sprocket and I didn’t realize this until I reassembled the engine and started it. Now at TDC, the cams are not in the right place which confirmed my theory. Am I able to pull the timing chain tensioner out of the block and spin the cam gear to realign the cams from the top or won’t that work? I know the crank sprocket is smaller than the cam sprocket but don’t know if they’re equally different so I would be able to move the chain 2 teeth on the cam sprocket?? I guess what I’m asking is if there’s any other way realign the cams without pulling the front cover and moving the chain down one tooth on the crank sprocket? I’m really trying to avoid that as the engine is back in the car and fully assembled minus the valve cover

I have a question for you. Can an m54 run with incorect timing but without any fault codes? What woud the sympthoms be if timing is incorect?

Nathan's DIY Garage, i am having a vibration problem in my e46 325i manual. it has a vibration wich i cant find the source of. When it is at iddle it runs pretty good but when you look at the engine hood it schakes a little bit and you can feel the shake when you touch the engine (not in the normal way this is not my first bmw 6 cilinder) i don hear anything abnormal no noisses or missing anything like Running on 5 cilinder or so. The vibration can be felt trought the whole car while driving but is worse at some rpms mainly 1500 and 2500rpm. I does seem to be having vanos rattle sound around 3000rpm wich cant be normal beqause i did the o rings and anti rattle kit. What i have done so far Compression test 12,5 -13 bar on al 6 Lemforder engine mounts Fuel filter 6 bosch coils and ngk spark plugs Beisan Vanos seals with anti rattle kit Oem chain tensoiner Aluminium Disa valve flap with thicker O ring Valve cover gasket Oem Ccv with al hosses x2. first one i put in made noise... it has no oil consumption and never had any i just changed it thinking there coud be a vacum leak. Al gaskets and hosses on the intake (also oem) Oem cam sensors Siemens vdo maff Oem new vibration damper pully + bolt on the front of the engine Clutch and flywheel x3, 2x sachs wich were undriveable 1x luk wich is the best til now. with the sachs flywheel- clutch the car wou shake like crazy to the point you got scared of driving it. I have been thinking about getting the injectors tested and cleaned. Dont know what else i can do. There are no fault codes in the error memory. What i also have noticed is that somtimes it does not have its full power- torque and seems te be realy lazy.

I have had issues with the fan clutch being out of balance and causing this, might want to take it off and see if that changes anything

Nathan's DIY Garage mhh, if my car had one that woud be an option. :-) my car only has an electric fan. I also tried running the engine standing still without any belts (not long afcourse) remains exacly the same My gues is that i still have an out of balance flywheel or clutch, cant figure out what else it can be. It has to be something rotating. Its not an instal issue either i have done so many clutches and flywheels and never had any problems with any of those. And everything is torqued to spec with new bolts.

Question.... I bought an amazon $75 dual vanos timing plate(gauge/tool). Problem is, it looks a bit generic. And there are set-screws, to set the distance of the plungers, that contact the gear cups. The prob is that they are square ended screws, but the plungers that determine the distance for the cap placement of the gears..... well that area is circular. So first I’m not sure if the set screws should be loose or tight.???? And second, how can I know if they are gonna place the vanos cups at the right depth? Does anyone have a measurement of how deep each of those two cups should protrude passed the edge of the cylinder head block, where the vanos unit is later bolted??? Aka.... how far past that edge should each one be ???? My “tool” did not come with any instructions or measurements . Somebody help . Really worried about if this tool was built right.

Nathan I have a big request. Can you please upload a video on how to properly flush the coolant on a m52tu engine, basically how to get rid of all the air in the instalation because I always had a problem with my car not blowing worm air through the vents. It'll only blow hot air when the engine is anywhere above 2000 rpm, the higher the rpm the more hot air comes through. I have changed the interior cabin radiator because I thought it was clogged. I also checked the water valve that allows warm coolant to pass by and to go to the interior cabin radiator and it's working perfect. I even took it appart and lubbed the pivoting shaft. It works perfect. The only issue I can think of is that there is still air in the instalation. I also checked the water pump and it's working properly, the plates are metalic. Thermostat also working grate. So.. can you please help me because winter is going to come and I don't want to freeze in my car anymore ( e46 coupe, m52tu)

When you fill it you have to turn the heat all the way up with the engine off, keep adding and then it will fill the heater core, only do this after you have filled with the bleed screw out, and reinstalled it

+Nathan's DIY Garage ok thanks..but i have done that and it does not work. I'll try to find a sort of vacuum pump or something that forces coolant in the radiator. It's the only thing I can think of now...
