I m Malaysian and love all kinds of golok n parAng as tools for gardening and camping and outdoor sports. I like to collect goloks from various indonesian islands too. Unfortunately too much stress by their social media and parang marketeers on the use of parangs as deadly weapons instead as tools. Please promote parang tools for the market is enormous to help the poor local industry, they are my friends too.

@shanetan9651 For your needs and if budget is not an issue, I would get the MYParang Village Chandong 10" or 12" model. I think the chandong style is better suited than the Golok as I find the MyParang Goloks not wide enough IMO. Size wise depends on your personal preference. 10" is more portable. 12" has more cutting blade and reach. Parang Tantari is good but fit and finish is not as nice as MyParang (but, cheaper). However, I will only get their Classic handle and not the modern handle as I feel the balance and ergos are not as good. One downside of MyParang is their sheath. It is serviceable but not great. Tantati offers a good Kydex sheath. But they do not have a Village Changong model. Hope that helps.

Parang Lading in Silat Cekak has specific measurement for it's wearer/user since the usage of it in the Silat style is more on a defense stance. It takes the exact measurement of the length of the user's arm from the elbow up to the tip of the middle finger. When holding it (in defensive form), you hold the handle while the blade runs paralel to your arm. In Silat Cekak's Lading, they only sharpen the blade few inches at the end. Not all the way through the parang.

Are all those parangs full tang? How do the handle got attach? Do they all have sheath?
@urbanknifeguy
Жыл бұрын
None of them are full tang. The traditional Malaysian paran is a Rat tang. They all come with sheaths. You can check my channel for individual videos on them. Wait a month or two for a new full tang parang that is designed and made in Malaysia. It is arguably the best parang that will be available on the market. I will share it on this channel very soon too.

Correct! Many people refer to the Camp 10 as a Kukri design. I contend it is more of the Golok design. In fact, I have a video on the Camp 10 next week! Great timing for your comment!

The Bidor parangs are really nice I use both the 8,10 and 12 - the sheath is good quality but no good unless it’s going to just sit in the car, it’s very loose and the retention strap wont hold the parang. Of course it’s easy to get the knife in and out so if you’re working in one place and just need an easy tool holder, then ok, but I would not move around much with it especially not in uneven terrain, it’s not really safe for that. Btw in my experience they also call a number of styles, not limited to the duku design, “parang” in northern Sulawesi (Manado area and nearby islands) … but golok I guess would still be the name for the pointy, knifelike shape as you said …

Kalo saya orang Sumatra ada namanya golok gerahang, kalo golok gerahang tuh bilahnya mirip parang duku chandong tapi lebih lurus
