Using polymer clay, I am demonstrating how to sculpt a generic human head. I use this as a practice run prior to having my students jump right into a full portrait bust sculpture.
The main areas of focus for this demonstration are...
-forming a basic sphere into an egg, then press and rolling the clay forward toward the chin
-using a vertical and horizontal bisector then adding landmarks for the facial features
-press in and roll out for the eye sockets
-define the shape of the nose
-add and blend spheres for the nose
-add clay for the mouth box
-use a sculpting tool to define the lips and chin
-remove excess clay from the back of the head to define the jawline
