Starting with this video, I've decided to chronicle my Tesla Model 3 Performance track experience.
Online content for step-by-step, detailed DIY instructions for changing the rear brake pads on a Model 3 Performance is practically non-existent.
In this video, I change the rear pads myself for the first time in order to show and explain in detail exactly how to do it, even if with some trial and error. The brake pads I install are stock rear brake pads from Tesla, but modified by Carbotech.
The stock rear pads have a built-in ant-chatter spring as opposed to removable retainer springs. Because of this, any aftermarket performance pad you purchase for track days come without this retainer spring. And, without this spring, the rear brake chatter is unbearable... at least for me it was.
The solution? Carbotech has a service in which they'll take your stock pad, remove the stock compounds and replace with the compound of your choice. In this case, I've had them install the XP12 compound, which I'll mention in the video.
So watch as I share with you the tool types and sizes you'll need as well as technique to getting the job done, as well as share with you my opinion of the stock Tesla Model 3 Performance suspension, subframe and and braking components.
