One of the reason I like to keep a flint and steel kit in my bag is that it’s a self sustained way to keep making fire. The flint and steel will last a lifetime and whenever you start running low on the material that will take a spark, you can easily use the tin to make more. Today I used small squares of an old 100% cotton tshirt but you can use various types of fungi (such as coal fungus or amadou), punk wood, or even coals from an old fire. Once the material is placed in the tin and set on the fire just wait for it to stop smoking before takeing it off, let it completely cool and your kit is ready to make many more fires. No wonder people used flint and steel for centuries! 🔥😀 (See Part 1 for starting a fire with the kit)
