Well, with the new setup the kids will only be milking cows in special circumstances where their milk must be kept separate from the bulk milk. I don't watch every episode but I don't recall seeing any cows being milked.

Thanks for the update Andy. Planning for the future is diligent on your generation in order for the next generation to continue to farm. Your family is certainly vested and want to keep the farm going. The time and effort you, your brothers, and parents have put into this expansion is not appreciated as much as it should be from some of your channel followers. Kudos to you all for keeping it going. Take care

Ok that is it. I can’t afford to keep watching your videos. We have two pull behind vacuums that we need to upgrade. After watching your Nuhn vacuum video and then a lot of discussion with Nuhn, we have two 4750 self propelled vacuums on order. We’ve been looking to consolidate three parlors two one and you are building one. This is getting expensive. Maybe I had just better watch Duffy…..🤣

It’s good to hear that the younger members of your family want to continue in the family business. I see too many small family farms disappearing these days. I work in the feed manufacturing end of agriculture in Kentucky. When I started in the family business about 10 years ago we had about 10 or a dozen dairies as customers. Now we have none. They were older dairy men that have either retired and the younger members of the family didn’t want to continue farming or there have been several that have got out of the milking end of it but have now got contracts to raise replacement heifers for bigger dairies in other states such as New York, Tennessee and Florida.

Thanks for the updates Andy!! I can't wait to see the ones coming in the future. That's really awesome to hear that you have another generation wanting to follow in your footsteps. Anymore it's so tough keeping a farm going and having another generation to take over the family farm. With the economy the way it is and all the uncertainty in the world you can't blame some for letting it go. The problem we have going on with keeping our farm going is the urban sprawl in our area. So many acres have turned into housing developments. Our farm that we are still farming has been in our family going on 150 years. Having a future of keeping it going is growing dimmer.
@davidthorne2129

Hi from oz Andy. Your understanding of what is evolving in agriculture is outstanding. The exact same scenario is currently happening here in Australia. Except that our large cities are on the coast. So city money tends to buy up farms where the farmer is retiring, then often adds another 4 to 10 local farms to make 1 large aggregation of 20000 to 50000 acres.

This winter, i did a road-by-road estimate of the number of operating family dairy farms on the Navarino hilltop during my adolescence in the 1950s - 60s. I came up with 60 famillies earning their living milking cows. If the average herd size was 25 cows that would total 1500 cows. With now only 2-3 dairies left in business (and growing) - that is at least 4,000 bovines with more to come. I never regretted growing up on a small family dairy and wholeheartedly embrace all the progress & changes. It's fun for me to watch you prosper and grow.

The way we look at it is we grow or we die. For many reasons it’s the only option. We milk 3500 currently in a DeLaval E500 120 point rotary. When a farm within 35 miles goes under you either buy their ground and grow or someone else will. When I graduated high school in 1999 we were milking 350 similar situation for many of us.

The problem with a large family business is argumentation among themselves. solve that problem and the business might run ok into the future, each family member should work away in the real world for a short time to gain life experience and away from there comfort zone at home ,then come back home if it appeals to them.

@@FarmingFixingFabricating Andy I greatly appreciate your reaching out. I am recommending my wife try one that clips on her hat to compare to the traditional head lamp. I like the idea of the rechargeable style. Hopefully she takes a look this week. Any favorites you have appreciate your thoughts. I believe some weeks ago I sent an email about a liquid chicken manure we sell and can have delivered to you in totes. Last year a grower purchased five from me to use in popup for beans. This season he purchased thirteen. He was using a popup blend from Nitrien but found this product to be more cost effective. He also purchases Kphite systemic fungicide and applies post emergent to field corn at V6-8 with post emergent herbicde. He tracks yield data and has been applying for several years with consistent positive results. I can send information again if you had interest. All the best.
