2K these days doesn't get a lot. I bought my Astro van in 2015 for $2500 with 57k miles. That was before the vanlife movement, and no one wanted these vans. It had electrical issues and the Boy's Summer Camp just wanted it gone. I found the short, fixed it and family still driving it today with 180k miles. Most reliable vehicle. Never had to fix anything other than regular maintenance. My Silverado 2500 truck and Nissan Xterra has constant problems, but I do my own repairs so it's still cheap. I need the truck for RV hauling. You need tools and start wrenching on your own vehicles. Only rich people can go to mechanic these days. There is KZitem video on every repair. I carry all the tools with me, some parts and a bicycle. When I break down, I use bicycle to get parts from local store or post office (RockAuto), fix it on the side of the road. Never once did I get it towed and I broke down a lot in my Silverado and Xterra. You have to at least try to fix some stuff, change pads, seals, bearings, fluids, alternator, water pump, steering pump, idler pulleys, belts. If you plan on living as nomad and not end up sleeping behind a store, please get some used tools on FB marketplace and start wrenching. Example: Front WAGNER brake pads for Chevy astro are $10.37 and 2 hours of work but mechanic will charge you $300. They will charge you $80 for just pads. They mark up %200 on parts from Napa which are 2x than RockAuto. If you're not doing anything, get a job at a shop, tell them you'll work as helper. You will learn and make $$$. Every shop is looking for help. At very least, watch all the repair videos on your vehicle so you won't be taken for ride at the shop. If you get a job at the shop, you can fix your van there, then quit. They will probably help you too.

I know but the goal is 2k cuz it's a reasonable goal to set to get to in 3 months while the weather is good here. You have to look long and hard and get past all the weasels selling stuff that doesn't run and asking 2k for it. In my opinion, if it won't drive down the road, it's not worth any more than 500 in parts depending on the car. So far I have found a motorcycle for 1500 in Hermosa SD that I wouldn't buy for anymore than 900 and a van in Alliance NE for 2500 that I'd offer maybe 1100 on but that's if either are still available in July
