Really enjoying these videos, thanks for taking the time to post. Your speedo cable is a fairly simple fix! A lot of the old GM vehicles (pre-87) have very similar cables. The original DeLorean batch were made in England by a company that made cables for Vauxhall (GM in the UK, also a heavy user of LAMBDA until the OBD systems starting showing up in the mid 80s). The spinning cable inside the sheath gets compressed in cold weather. The outer sheath contracts ever so slightly and causes binds, which causes the cable to wind up like a spring. The tension builds until it can break the bind and then the speedo jumps up temporarily as all the energy in the wound cable is released. With two cables, you get twice the fun! The fix, spray some silicon down the cables. I do it from only one end. Mount the cable vertically and spray from the top end. Keep spraying until clean silicon starts coming out from the bottom end. This is to remove any friction dust that has built up in the cable. When you reinstall, try to limit any binds. That's it! And be careful dude! Try not to use power drills around gasoline. Most shops ban their techs from using electric tools when they service fuel pumps or work around the tanks.

Really fun to watch you take care of all those issues little by little, I admit it's kinda surprising no one commented about that hose. I know I have very little knowledge about that stuff personally, but the splitting at the end was fairly evident. Really cool that after seeing that they promptly sent you a replacement so quick! Love all the little memorabilia! Keep up the good work~

Loving the Delorean content and can't wait to see the Fiero when it's back from paint. I imagine that speedometer might level out and "break in" over time. You have two of my dream cars. I love doing this type of stuff as well. I replaced the windshield washer nozzles and hose on my wife's car this afternoon. The hose had dry rotted and the nozzles had become brittle. She now has a clean windshield. LOL.

Might I say you are doing a fine job on the Delorean. It may be wise to check where the master cylinder was leaking if it leaked for a while and got on the frame the fluid will react with the epoxy coating on the frame and make it bubble iup causing rust. When I was working on mine I had some problems with this and had to do some frame repair.

Love watching you guys on your ancient Earth history program's. Never herd of a flux capacitor, but by the rest of your episodes I get the impression your talking about time displacement. You cold try a reverse induced plasma coil manifold Assuming you have invented one. Would gladly send you one but I don't think Amazon deliverer from my location. Good luck with the project.

The spindle needs oiled in the magnet hole and then a little of a special silicone needs to be put on the spindle just under the pointer. I used to repair, rebuild and recalibrate speedos

Didn't know that. I think the issue is the lower cable is still the factory no shortened one. And once I put it in the plastic clip by the angle drive it binds up some.

Speedo bounce is probably the dust cap slipping. Temp can make it better or worse. Try replacing the dust cap which is cheap and easy and it may correct all the bounce in the needle.

No I checked that first thing. In fact it is brand new. I think the lower cable needs replacing. They now make a slightly shorter one to take that bow out of the cable.

I was never sold on the new fuel pump design. Seems to create more problems than it was supposed to solve. The old design is fine as long as you don't get the fuel hot causing the pump to overheat. I corrected this issue on this thread about halfway down. dmctoday.com/showthread.php?2821-Your-winter-holiday-to-do-list/page6 Seems like you have a idle surge, this is widely regarded as "normal" but it is not. With just a little help that can be corrected. Usually it's a vacuum leak causing the idle system to always play catch up. Some people try to compensate with a mixture adjustment but that is just a band aid fix. I subbed, love watching people bring these cars to daily duty!!

I do like the new pumps they are using from Delphi. Those pumps are used on so many cars already. And this was instead 8 or 9 years ago. Some years later and the electrics were improved. I am working on Part 4 now and found my evaporation canister lines plugged up and one completely closed off. Might have something to do with the vacuum issues. We will have to see.

@@fiero880 My new pump took a dump after 50 miles. Nobody makes a quality OE pump anymore, not even Bosch. I finally went with a new pump design from DeLorean Industries(same thing as the Delphi but his comes with everything needed including pre fabed AN fitting hoses). No high heat tests just yet but after about 100 miles, no issues.

Why do your rpms go up and down during idle. Reminds me of my old 67 Camaro before I fixed the float on the carburetor. They had a styrofoam float and when they got old they got saturated with gas and caused the uneven idle. Not sure what carburetor you have but it could be a similar issue.

Can you give more details how you managed to swap the fuel pump connector with the new one?
@fiero880
4 жыл бұрын
If you take the light gray plastic clips off the connector, you have full access to the wire connectors. The wire connectors have a plastic black tab that secures them in place. By lifting that tab you can pull the wire and metal connector through the black of the plug and transfer it to the new connector. After each wire is in the correct place and pressed fully in seated at the tab you can put the light gray pieces in place and the connector is swapped.
