This attack on this intelligent musician is interesting to see. I'm a big time metal listener. It kind of harkens back to the Plato and Aristotle disagreement about art. Plato warned about the social ills that art can encourage, while Aristotle spoke of, say, his catharsis idea, as in art helping with the vomiting up of pent up things from within. I think it's not one way and not the other. It's both together. Anyway, may metal never die. Metal has helped me in my case quite a lot. Ha, I introduced my favorite two nephews to it. They started a metal band. I'm a proud uncle.
@rox290

Great story- Its good to hear that people still take interest in other forms of music than what's mainstream. Plato also talked about looking past what is "readily apparent" and finding a different interpretation. Not saying that people who don't listen to mainstream are smarter, but they certainly are exposed to views/ideas mainstreamers aren't. Glad I found metal and not Bieber....

One good thing now that was different when we where younger is that you have heavy metal kids listening to 2010+ bands heavy metal dads who listened to 90s and 80s bands , and even heavy metal granddads who listened to 70s bands, so I think kids are growing up now with parents that actually get it and understand why kids like it. My old man was a bit mystified with my music till I played him some iron maiden and he said "Hey this is a bit like sabbath in parts" and then the lights went on and he understood. Now even old grandpa probably wore a black shirt in his day lol.

And that my friends is why Dee Snider is one of the most beloved men in rockin roll, not because he wrote two hits, and one hit record and a bunch of ok pre glam/metal songs, but because he is such a brilliant man, he single handedly saved the first amendment right for artists of all genres in a time when a liberal congress tried to take those rights.

My parents never censored anything I listened to, and for the most part, they didn't listen to it either. They had a relationship with me, they listened to me, they were exemplary role models to me, and provided a loving environment where I was encouraged to think for myself while also instilling certain values, which could not be unraveled by a song on an album. The stuff I listened to as a teen was very sexist, but I had a great relationship with my mother, thus respect for women.
