i have finally finished watching the Music Theory series vids. it really is a very interesting and informative series! 👍🏻 as a casual guitarist with no proper music training (other than music class in elementary), it really is an information overload for my under utilized brain. hehe. i think my favorite of the series in the Part 1.5, Part 5, Part 4... in that order. what i love about the Part 1.5 is that it really detailed the various ways we can play the same chord around the fretboard. anyway like i said, great series! im sure i'll be rewatching the other parts again until it all sink in to me. kudos and thank you for sharing the knowledge! looking forward to more vids like this on your channel! 🤘🏻🤛🏻

This video was well worth the wait! Kudos to you Perf, for putting so much time and effort in sharing your knowledge of the guitar and music to us! While I already had a baseline understanding of the seven modes, even memorizing how to play all 7 modal scales shapes in both series and also in parallel, I honestly didn't really know how to put the scale shapes into practical application. The part where you explained the logic and reasoning why/how modes matched with chord types helped clear up my confusion of HOW to apply modal scale shapes. I hope to see a future lesson where you can demonstrate how to play the seven modes in both series and parallel(I personally know how😊). That would be very helpful to your fans/students who may not know how to form the scale shapes

Nice! That's a good way to arrange them once you learn the interval formulas
@JCFern
5 жыл бұрын
I've seen this sequence of modes before on an online lesson by a gentleman named Matt Warnock. It is a pretty good approach to learning the modes from an interval-based standpoint, since you're lowering an interval, one at a time as you progress through the modes
@JCFern
5 жыл бұрын
When arranging the modes in this order: Lydian Ionian Mixolydian Dorian Aeolian Phrygian Locrian I noticed that each mode is five degrees apart from each other if you read down the list, and they are four degrees apart if you read the list from the bottom up. The cycle of 5ths/4ths moves in mysterious ways...

Hi, Sir Perf! Just one question. The formula for Dm6 following the 20:33 Natural Minor Scale should be R - b3 - 5 - b6 (D - F - A - Bb), right? But why is Dm6 formed as R - b3 - b5 - 6 (D - F - A - B)? Doesn't it then becomes Dorian with the use of the natural 6th (b3, b7) instead of following Aeolian (b3, b6, b7)? This is the one thing that confuses me. Hope you can enlighten this matter. Thanks a lot! Cheers!
@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro
Жыл бұрын
Dm6 has a natural 6 (B), to transform it into an Aeolian chord then it should be a Dmb6. The minor designation is only for the quality of the triad, not the extension
@ardiancereyes
Жыл бұрын
@@OfficialPerfectoDeCastro That's when it really gets confusing coz then, why does the minor 7th use a b7? Hope you can shed some light, sir. Thanks very much!
