Interesting that only in California was a Kirkbride building considered a fire hazard. Kirkbride's pepper the east coast and many were still in use into the 1990's. Many new facilities for seniors are built on a one story Kirkbride to this day.

"Moral Treatment" is the correct term for the approach to the treatment of the mentally ill in the 1800's. You have done a great job of gathering information for this series!

You know I was going to there this last week. I live in the Sacramento area and instead went to Rockville. This has me interested now.

My horse & I used to ride the trails often @ Skyline. The forest is enchanted. We’ve both seen a number of things there. LOL

Just by chance I ran into Mickey out at Skyline this past weekend, and he pointed me towards these videos. I can’t believe how well done this is! I feel like I’m watching something on the History channel! I have yet to finish up the next two but they’re on my watch list. I also heard about your fall in Downieville - Colin the driver at Yuba Expeditions mentioned something about someone’s arm on GVR a few weeks ago. Hope you’re on the mend and thank you for the videos!

Hi Forest! Mickey had a great time riding with you, he told me all about it. Hope to run into you sometime on the trails - my elbow is healing well and I hope to be back on the bike in December sometime. So glad you enjoyed part I, I had a lot of fun researching this series.

Impressive detail gathering and storytelling, Kate. Dr. Stone sure knew how to throw a raging trout-themed hootenanny. I sense your future career as an esteemed historian...you can be anything you want to be!

I went inside the cavern, we smelled some-thing foul. Turned back. I can’t find anything on the cave, I’ve heard rumors of tunnels inside the area

Just went there and found your videos. I was hoping for more info on the abandoned two story building with all of the graffiti on it that looked like old living quarters.

Hi Jarrett, all I know about that building is that it was called the "F-Ward", short for farming ward. I think the patients placed there participated in gardening and other outdoor activities into the 1970's.

There is no way people believe they built that castle that is more impressive than ones in England in 7 years..
