Yay, thanks for sharing. Been waiting to hear your opinion on the rest of the show. What do you mean by "relationship" vs "support"?

relationship partners have the relationships with clients, do the schmoozing, and act as point of contact with clients. support partners do not have the direct client relationships and work to “support” (eg, do the actual legal work for) the relationship partners’ work. both are partners, but they are very different ways of being partners and lifestyles

I'm Chinese and like, a FOB JD student. The book has this Chinese FOB girl character (not in the show though) that Ingrid considers super shy and socially awkward. Our Ingrid thought this person didn't know how to work an American corporate job. AND Ingrid tried really hard to make others not associate her with this uncool Chinese girl, including lying about not speaking Mandarin... All these are just horrific and even offensive to me. This book really made me fear that every minute working in biglaw will be miserable since my coworkers might just consider me socially awkward and a pathetic outlier... I think the fact that the author wrote this and have them in the published version is ... some evidence of her insane insecurity and the need to justify herself. I feel that the book unconsciously endorsed the social constructions forcing Asians or Chinese people to justify themselves. And the author did not challenge these construction but rather showed off that she was cool and special because she was not a typical/stereotypical Asian. I actually find some of my Asian American friends and classmates very insecure about who they are and are constantly passively justifying themselves, and I'm afraid the author is one of these people. I guess growing up as a "minority" and the constant exposure to an adverse environment shapes people's defensive mindset. Also the identity crisis is real. Of course, as grown-ups, we would care less about not being cool and embrace who we are. Apologies for my rambling🥺 I like your content and podcast so I want to dump some of my thoughts here.

i wouldn’t worry about that! typing speed won’t be a significant advantage or disadvantage. if you’re worried, you can always practice your speed but i wouldn’t obsess too much about it. speed reading would help you more, for example
