I spend a lot of $ on event rental companies, I personally prefer 8x4 decking just because occassionaly the decking joining together isn't 100% smooth, especially with older staging and 8x4 decking eliminates more uneven surfaces.

8x12 and 8x16 seems to be most popular at the start. So I would buy 8-12 4x4 stage decks to start with.

Your gate will adjust wherr it stops. Take a look at it and find the stop switch and it should move up a little to fix that problem .
