I wanna thank everyone for watching the video and leaving your comments. I appreciate it! I decided to clarify a few points as I have seen several messages with differing views on what is included in background checks. First, I wish everyone a smooth background process and that you will start your new job without hassle! And that's the reason I made this video - to provide a deeper understanding of how bg checks work so that you can make the most informed decision and minimize the risk of unnecessary trouble and disappointment! My point is that while the scope may differ depending on the position's location/industry/seniority, past employment history is a core part of pre-employment verification. Depending on how thoroughly the employer (and/or the bg firm) decides to conduct the check, certain information may be overlooked, of course. But my questions is: would it be wise to rely on this possibility and make your entire bg check decisions? Personally, I will never recommend anyone to intentionally lie about their resume for the risk and the disadvantages mentioned in this video. But that's the decision we need to make for ourselves, I guess. I understand the disappointment/ramifications of failed checks and am just trying to help. Once again, wish you all the best and thanks for reading!

If you had a felony 29 years ago can a potential employer used that to disqualify you
@elevationcareer
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. With felony records, it really depends on the specific law of one's location. There are many factors that will be considered including the nature of the felony, company policy, employment law, etc. 29 years is a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if companies overlook records from that long ago but it would ultimately be on a case-by-case basis. There are ways to try and expunge criminal records from a long time ago (depending on the severity). The best advice I can provide is to seek professional legal advice.

try to get that expunged asap if possible. it really doesnt matter if it happened last week or 29 years ago. an hr or a hiring manager finds out you were once a felon then unfortunately that becomes an immediate turn off, like i look at your record and all i see is that you had a felony, doesnt matter when it had happened, you were a felon, i dont want to work in the same office as a felon, there are so many other applicants, why do we need to hire this felon. i know i sound harsh but its the reality, so get that shit expunged

Great video! Im currently dealing with this... I put I was still at a company but I had left 3 months prior to applying for the role. I updated the info on my background check but I still feel that it could hurt me. All of my friends told me to keep the relevant experience and not update it. I regret it so much now. Fingers crossed everything works out. I will never do that again.

i had my 2nd interview and they just contacted my referee and it was all positive reference. there is a gap on my current employment but the position that im applying is very relevant to my previous work experience which i didnt lie about it. do they check resume for background check or there will be a from that i need to fill in first before the background check begins? if so do i need to put the correct one including the gap on my employment?
@fantica197

and usually when do they do background check? by the end of the hiring process or after you get hired? or do they do background check just based of checking your reference?
@elevationcareer

Good question. From what I've seen, almost all companies will ask you to fill in a form for the purpose of a bg check. And the bg check company will have access to the resume, which means they can compare the form data and resume. To clarify, did you indicate the employment gap on your resume when you applied?
@fantica197

@@elevationcareer unfortunately no. The 1 year gap i put in the current work that im working now. Its a 1 year gap but its that job experience its not relevant to what i am applying for

How often can you contact the company doing the background check. I have the representatives number and email
@elevationcareer

Thanks for your comment. I assume you're asking how often can a candidate contact the background check company to follow up on the progress? If yes, there is no set rule, but once a week (after the initially projected period is over) would be reasonable.

Totally agree with you! This is really helpful. Do you recommend to do background checks internally? or hire a third party investigator?

Sure, all the companies I worked with as clients in the past engaged third-party verfication firms.

I listed something and the boyscouts just retracted the offer, and plan to sue for failure to do a civil background check.

I was terminated from one of the job. Will my BG check will show that I was terminated? During the interview I told them that I was laid off. I finally got the offer letter after 2 months of on-site interview and currently going through background check
@elevationcareer

Thanks for your questions. Just to clarify, when you say "terminated", do you mean fired? And how recent was this? If they do verify with the previous firm, they will be able to find out. But depending on the reason for termination and/or how long ago it was, they may not check or even care that much...

Hi, So i got my offer letter already and the company that gave the offer letter is going to process the background check. if they find a arrest last year which they will. Can they withdraw the offer of employment?
@elevationcareer
8 ай бұрын
Hi... That's a tricky situation. Most of the time the employer would withdraw the offer. But it also depends on the company policy. Depending on the severity of the reason for the arrest, they may choose not to withdraw. If possible, I suggest seeking some legal advice on this matter because each location and jurisdiction will have its own law, as well as, potential means to remove criminal records especially for minor misdemeanors.

Not mentioning volunteer experience (non-paid) in the resume is perfectly fine.
