Students in the Clothing classes began working on this year’s production of the fashion show in October! The preparation began with the students choosing the theme of the show, which this year was “Passport to Fashion”. as well as the music, and all of the backdrops and props used in the show. They selected six international cities to support their garments: Tokyo, Rio, LA, New York, London and of course, the most famous city for fashion, Paris. Models in the show included Clothing students, relatives, friends and even a faculty member! The Clothing students work all year designing and creating garments of their own choosing. Once the students have completed and selected their garments for the show, they must also write the descriptive cards for their garments which are also read by students in the classes. At the show, guest are able to view a selection of croquis that adorn the walls of the theater, to set the mood for the high-end fashions. Croquis are similar to fashion illustrations, but are meant for use by a pattern maker to indicate where construction details are needed in the design of the garments being modeled. As you will see, the students exhibited great pride and excitement as they displayed their work on the runway to a full house.
Two awards were given out at the end of the show: the “Permanent Collection Piece”, awarded to Nondhapath (Tata) Khampang for his lined car coat and the “Award for Distinguished Merit”, awarded to Natalie Gulbankian, for her twenty-piece dress.
The Clothing students were thrilled to be able to re-instate this long standing, city tradition after a three-year hiatus, due to Covid.
We hope you will enjoy viewing the amazing work that the students have created!
