Thank you for this recipe, I tried for the first time today, Following your excellent instructions, mine turned out good. I need to perfect pressing out the dough in the muffin tins. It will give me an excuse to bake them again and again Might I point out you temperature conversion of 100 degrees C equal 220 degrees F is wrong, it should be 212 degrees F

In my state of Goa (India), which was ruled by the Portuguese for over 450 years, these pastries were available in the capital city of Panjim. I cannot describe the feeling when I tasted one for the first time. However, sadly, when the last time I visited the place, the pastry was nowhere to be found. I'm so glad you made it. I am for sure going to try these out to revive my childhood memories

Portuguese custard tarts do not taking confectionary sugar on top but you can put cinnamon i know because i lived in portugal and the molds used for the tarts are not those ones they are diferente molds for the tarts

Well, Pastéis de Belém, which are a variation from Pastéis de Nata, do. And some places give you confectionary sugar along with cinnamon. It's not a "all around rule" to just use cinnamon. I agree with the molds though, they're different.

I know there are molds made specific for these tarts ..but in homecooking when people don’t have all the types of pans and molds they can consider using the muffin pan

Reading from the recipe instructions I noticed the part that says: "finally spread 3 tbsp. softened butter over the whole square". It looks like these 3 tbsp. butter was eliminated in the list of ingredients for the dough part? Please advise thank you!

In the list of ingredients it is mentiones 1/2 cup (110g ) butter, divided..first 2 tbsp ..another 2 tbsp ..and finally 3 tbsp ..equals 110g

I appreciate your demonstrating this, and for the recipe written in English. I love your hand held mix Master. What brand is it? I love that the attachment is specifically long and twisted to fold dough! I need one. I recently brought a Kichen Aid one, it is lousy and 50.00. The attachment are short and dough climbs up to the machine. And it has absolutely no speed adjustments. Thumbs down for this Canadian over simplified and over priced product.

I am simply using a Bosch hand mixer... not overly expensive and works just fine
😳 Vanilla extract in Pastéis de Nata?🤦🏻♀️ Please don’t do that. You could try less flour and more egg yolks for that amount of milk, they will be creamier and tastier, and a little bit closer to the true ones 🤗

Lots of theories around it, some say it's because they might have used cream instead of milk before and by the time the change was made the name already stuck. But no one knows for certain.

Who wants can definitely use half milk (120g) and half cream (120g) for a richer filling... I have used only milk as I considered them consistent enough as is and didn’t need more fat
