Its deeper than that. We assign value, we arbitrate beauty. A pearl is ugly to a person who only enjoys dark colors, a pearl is valueless unless it is made an idol of material possession. To caste these pearls is to make, and abide by, a shallow assumption. This is what happened here in the vid to prove that.

Shocks don't actually restart hearts. In fact, they work by stopping a heartbeat-a weird, problem heartbeat, that is. A powerful electric shock can actually CTRL-ALT-DELETE a heart that's pumping irregularly or too fast, in hopes of resetting the heart to its correct rhythm. Only chest compressions can do that (or direct heart compressions if the person is being operated on and the chest is already open. The whole shocks restarting hearts thing is actually a fiction.

+ Kazira S Reminds me of this _true_ story: Rachel is a very religious woman. One day, a local river bursts its banks and floods her town. The mayor warns everyone to leave. Everyone panics and starts evacuating except for Rachel, who says God will save her. Soon, the water has filled her first floor, and Rachel goes up to a second story window. A rescuer passes by in a rowboat and offers to help Rachel leave, but she says no - God will save her. Next, the water rises even further and Rachel clambers up on her roof. A helicopter passes and a rescuer offers to take Rachel away, but she refuses, explaining that God will save her. Finally, the water rises even higher and Rachel drowns. She goes to Heaven, where she comes face to face with God and asks, “Why didn’t you save me?” “I tried,” explains God. “First I sent you an evacuation order from the mayor, but you didn’t listen. Then I sent you a rescuer in a rowboat and you didn’t listen. Then I sent you a rescue helicopter - and still you ignored me!”

And since he could only serve one, then your dad would then have to fill in for him for the second sentence, you fill in for the third, and onward until all 8 have been served. One day this little thought popped into my head ‘How do we know Jesus was really the son of god and not just some guy with delusions of grandeur?’ It was funny at the time, but as time went on it started coming up more and more frequently. Once every other year, every year, a few times a year, once a month, so on and so forth. The more I learned in all my other school subjects the more the answer seemed to be ‘nobody knows at all.’ By my sophomore or junior year of high school I suddenly realized I was deconverting...and I didn’t mind.

The religious get around the Bible by telling us we are not interpreting it correctly. That is a big cop-out. The Bible says what it says. Because they knew it only goes back to old arguments of "faith" among other non-sensical roads. At the end, clearly he was cornered about god being an unjust character, he still couldn't answer that honestly. There isn't much point about asking him about resurrection. That would be a wild goose chase.

This reminds me of my previous life in a city by that name... Eugene is a city that's changed a lot over the past 30 years. The Baptist fundamentalists from the old near-separate state of Jefferson have moved up into Lane County...for one thing. Fundamentalism in Eugene is alive and well apparently...I disagree with the "pastor"...He claims all people "sin"...no. I don't. This is a claim that went unchallenged in the discussion. Sin is often defined as an offense against a presumed "god". If the pastor cannot demonstrate the existence of a "god", there is no "sin". Men like him threatened me as a child...until I learned that it is impossible to inherit responsibility for wrongdoing. BTW the bible states clearly that the "deity" invented evil. So the public can know it is not all ignorance, darkness and unthinking reliance on ancient literature in Lane County, there is also an excellent University of Oregon, in Eugene (sic) and the good Lane County Historical Society, among many others. I am a native of Klamath Falls and a fortunate graduate of the U of O.

The Christian view is so pessimistic. Kids lie, yes. But they also tell the truth. In fact, one can easily argue that being honest is more inherent to our nature, because we're not born knowing how to lie. Kids are hilariously bad liars. The younger the kid, the worse they are at it. They sure do TRY (bless their little hearts, boy do they try! Lol) but they totally _suck_ at it. It takes at least to Grade 5 or 6 for a kid to potentially be any good at it because they actually have to _learn_ deceit. It's why parents get into those awkward situations where kids call out their lies in public (eg. When parents lie about the kid's age so they don't have to pay the entrance fee).

MrsRazor66 I work at a school library and as a prize at the end of a draw I had a class of Grade 6s play Beanboozled. Some of the kids asked if they could take their jelly beans home to prank their parents and (much to their delight) I told them "it's your beans, you can do what you want, buddy.". Some tried to trick their teacher, and he said their idea of being sneaky was to go "Here, have a jelly bean!". They seemed _far_ too excited about it, so he asked to see the packaging they were holding out. Their response was to go "Noooo! Just take the jelly bean! Don't look at the packaging!". They legit thought they were being subtle. Lol

This guy is trying his best to dance around the topic. He fails to see the following Syllogism: Premise 1: God has infinite for knowledge. Premise 2: God created the universe and everything in it. Premise 3: God created heaven and hell as well as the rules that govern who goes where. Conclusion: God created the world that he knew would fall and have people suffer for eternity. He also knew upon creating the world which people would go to hell and when, as well as how to save them of he actually loved them enough to not have them suffer forever. If you make the world and know everything ahead of time then you essentially sent those people to hell. A creator God with infinite for knowledge removes free will as well. He made you in a way and at a time that would put you in the situations that he knew what you'd decide to do in. Free will is a crapy argument for a theist as it defeats God. God has to be flawed for us to be able to defy him with our choices.

@@revanche1431 Most of the Christians I've met genuinely believe their twisted way of thought makes the most sense (I did). They're not purposefully trying to deceive people. Idk if you've ever been religious, but you don't need to be to understand blissful (not necessarily willful) ignorance (just look at the US conservative party). Maybe he's a bad person and knows it's all bullshit and just wants power. But from my experience in the church, he's likely just as much a victim as most. Though that wouldn't mean he's not to blame for not questioning his own ignorance.

@@bubblejuiceman And most Christians aren't pastors; I expect more out of a general than a soldier for the same reason you should expect more out of a pastor than a congregant. He positioned himself as a leader; as such it is his obligation to verify that what he is leading people toward is accurate. I spent 15 years trying to make a sky wizard happy and I'm just as disappointed in myself for the lies I told my children about it as I am in Eugene for lying to his. But at least I had the courage to accept the evidence when it was brought before me, unlike Eugene. People will vote differently because of him, raise children differently because of him, treat their spouses differently because of him, all based on his interpretation of words in a book. The least that should be expected of him is to verify that what the book says is true first.
@bubblejuiceman
4 жыл бұрын
@@revanche1431 I'm not disagreeing with that. I'm just saying that's not the way Christians think. They even praise each other for their confusion. But my point is that they don't realize this. Thinking that way is considered sinful, and a "good" pastor is supposed to be a good example in that way (nothing to do with reason). For example, you might want to compare a McDonald's manager to a Michelin Star restaurant manager, and that all food establishment managers should aspire to be like their more successful counterparts. But they were probably taught by their McDonald's manager, who was taught by his manager, etc. They likely have never even considered some of the stuff Michelin manager might consider obvious. Religious organizations work differently than others. Few actually get to choose who their leader is, and they, and their parents, and grandparents, learn everything from that leader who has probably been around their entire lives. If religious people thought the way you are suggesting (which I would agree with), then I think religion would be much less popular by now. It's not about serving humanity yourself, it's about serving god and believing he will help humanity for you.

The evidence that challenges his beliefs is readily available and he refuses to analyze it critically while SELLING a lie to others at 10% a pop; ignorant or not, I don't consider him "well-meaning".
