I know there's isn't much gameplay with honest heart's but i genuinely liked it. Oh and and as a bonus there is this video made by poppa boi titled: in the end there is light in the darkness. It's in my opinion a beautiful and very insightful speech given by Joshua Graham of course several of his lines that he says in the video were cut and spliced together but poppa did it so well that i genuinely believed this is something he would say in game. I know it's very much a stretch but hey i had to try ;-;.

Im a devout christian, in my teens and I believe on my own free will, the faith wasn’t forced on me. I have faith in God and I do believe I can conquer anything thats thrown my way. I got into a very heated argument with a man twice my size and I had no intentions of backing down cause I believed that no matter what I was going to end up on top. I really enjoyed these games, as an Orthodox Christian though, the whole "rip and tear" and hatred he feels is more Sith-like than Jedi-like, u know? I feel that viewing spiritual warfare as some hardcore gore fest, fueled by rage, hatred, all these dark emotions, it's hard to be pure of heart if like that. It's the fighter's mentality, but taken to such an extreme, and you can see a lot of this overzealous attitude applied in many things in Catholic/Protestant Christian society. Always wanting to go all out, speed run existence, viewing problems as trees to be cut down, force multipliers, destructive potential, resistance, fighting nature, it does not feel harmonious. I honestly think if you get it into your head that you want to challenge a demon, you'll get schooled so bad, and it will be hard to shake off after. The Protoss from StarCraft seem like some very cool Christians, wise and tempered, fueled by pure spiritual energies. But Doom is amazing, not taking anything away.

As a Christian, I'm often afraid to speak to my extended family about my favorite game series: Castlevania. It's dark, gothic, and involves everything from classic movie monsters like vampires and zombies to actual demons. Getting into DOOM was a similar feeling for me, as well, but the thing that most people don't realize about it is this: In Castlevania, you're playing as a holy dude (sometimes sent by the church directly, even) who is trying to GET RID OF the demons. Same thing in DOOM...you're literally trying to stop an army of demons from Hell from invading. You're THE GOOD GUY, they're THE BAD GUYS...it's not glorifying Hell, or demons, or Satan, or anything like that. I think that's pretty cool.

Just the simple fact that he doesn't get blinded by all the demonic imagery in the game and go "THIS GAME IS EVIL", but instead recognizes that the whole point of the game is that you are fighting *against* the demons and that demonic imagery, and went looking for parallels to the scriptures he's familiar with, and was able to draw connections and pull good messages from it. I was raised completely without religion myself, and tend to get uncomfortable when people want to discuss the idea with me, but I can respect when someone who *is* deeply religious is able to look past the First Impression like that and look at what's actually happening in media like this.

the slayer had a family too though that was presumably killed by demons. There's a picture on the floor near his pc in his room in eternal. The picture has him and his family with his face torn up. As a Christian and a gamer I seriously appreciate this video! I can understand why some people may be surprised that a believer in God can tolerate such a bloody and gorey game, but in reality there really isn't anything in the bible that tells Christians not to look at blood and gore and all that (to my knowledge), that's more of an individual's personal issue with the sight of gore. I personally don't play Doom but I love the references he pointed out and appreciate the refrences in the game that the developers made.
@spamhere1123
2 жыл бұрын
Anyone who thinks Christians are against gore (including Christians) have never read the Bible. It's gory. It's violent. I'm reminded of Revelation 19: 17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. Basically, an angel calls all the birds in the world to feast on the flesh of the armies arrayed against God, because he straight up wiped them out and threw them into the Lake of Fire. Shooting a demon with a shotgun seems almost tame by comparison.
@CRollins1997

In the Bible all it tells us to do is watch what we consume through our eyes because everything you watch can either ruin your brain or strengthen your brain. That’s why Christian’s hate things like porn and violence because it ruins our view of reality, porn shows people an unrealistic view of relationships and sex while violence is just causing discomfort, fear and anger
@spamhere1123

@@TonyJaaFan1587 If watching violence causes "discomfort, fear and anger", then we'd better stop reading the Bible, then. It's full of violence, some of it quite grotesque. I do agree with the principle of watching what we consume, but it has little to do with our brain. It's much more about the spirit. Also, the "unrealistic view of relationships" part makes me snort a bit--relationships in the modern world are broken beyond measure, and it had little to do with porn. Society at large has worked very hard to poison normal relationships, and getting the State involved in marriage ruined it, devolving it from a sacred union of man, woman, and God meant to represent the relationship of Christ and the Church to a business transaction authorized by the government.

I’ve never really subscribed to any real form of spirituality, personally, but I do appreciate that a lot of people need that to help them get through the day. As far as I’m concerned, as long as a person isn’t hurting anyone or generally committing douchebaggery, I believe everyone has the right to live their lives how they see fit. Heck, whenever people say that they’d like to pray for me and mine, when there’s something troubling occurring, I don’t tell them to bugger off, or anything. I genuinely appreciate the sentiment, despite my faith, or lack thereof. That being said, it’s quite refreshing to see someone of faith actually be open-minded about a game like this, rather than angry about its existence. Good on you.

Basically from what I remember (I only played 2016) the Doomslayer was blessed by some form of ArchAngel and has been slaughtering Demons for 1000s of years to the point where they had to seal him away like he was a Demon and the reason Lucifer is in the 9th circle of hell is because of the Doomslayer causing him to be scared. Keep in mind Doomguy has the ability to kill things like the Icon of Sin.
