I'm sad for Matty Ice, but he just couldn't stop giving the ball away. Edit: people wanted context. Yes, I know he's been hurt. Yes, I know our O-line sucks and that the running game can't get it going. That's why I'm sad for him. It's not completely his fault. However, he made a bunch of rookie mistakes in some interceptions. Sure, frustration leads to mistakes, and the O-line being Swiss cheese leads to those mistakes. But I'd take a good 4th and 20 and a punt that leaves the other team at their 20 rather than throwing an interception that leaves us inside our 20. It didnt expose anything. Man is a pocket passing, traditional QB, has been from Day 1 basically, and now he is 37. Everyone knew what Indy was getting in that regard. The Colts just failed to handle what that comes with. Keep the damn man on his feet and off his back, good things will/have happen(ed). The line hasn't even enabled Taylor to do anything this season other than GM 1. Matt was lured to Indy on the promises of a great offensive line in front of him and one of the best rushing attacks. He was promised a more complimentary/game manager role instead of having to try carrying the offense week to week and win games in the 4th Qtr. He is the one who has certainly gotten bamboozled. Lol

So Ryan is the answer? What have the colts got to lose? It can't get much worse, so why not? I know college football and the NFL are different, but how do you know how Sam will do. Ryan is done. He can't throw the ball more than 20 yards it seems like. Teams know that, and they are effectively shutting down this offense that clearly can't move the ball downfield. Ryan is throwing to players that ain't open, and yesterday one player wasn't looking for the ball because he had not finished his route. Ryan is a sitting duck in the pocket, not able to avoid the pass rush at all. Sam has a stronger arm, and he is more mobile. Our playbook can be more dynamic with him. How can he turn the ball over more than Ryan already has? I think he might be able to give this team a spark. I also think colts fans will mostly welcome him as the starter. I value all your opinions, but this is my opinion. We will see what happens, but I'm excited that Sam will get a chance because right now, this offense isn't getting the job done.

The decision was made two weeks ago. They didn't pull him, because it was 2 straight, "need to win", division games. I guarantee Irsay said after the Broncos fiasco, "that's it! We're done with this!", and Ballard and Reich calmed him down, telling him they need these next two and they can't just throw Elinger in there right now. After the Jaguars game, I'm sure Irsay said, "OK, if he plays like this next week, we'll roll with it, but if he puts up one more stinker, We're done with it!". I was calling for Elinger after week three. It was obvious by then, Ryan just didn't have any gas left in the tank. His arm is shot, can't make the throws, and can't move. We would have been in better shape, both record wise, and money wise, had they just signed The train wreck from Cleveland, Baker Mayfield. A bad attitude diva, is easier to work around, than a statue with no arm left. Would have been $18MM Cheaper, could have let him go after only one year, with no dead cap money, and Elinger would still have been there to take over if that failed. Ballard is the weak link for this team. The dumb decisions he makes EVERY year is killing this franchise. Reich is doing the best he can, with what little Ballard gives him to work with. I don't want to hear, "but he got Nelson, and Taylor." Those where no brainers. He also let Glowinski go, and has refused to do anything about the left tackle position, while paying the line top $, when there is two HUGE holes on said line. We only have 1 WR. Peirce is showing up, but he's still another year away from being great. This team is a mess, and Ballard shoulders that responsibility.

Bit bipolar Pat. You went months for days hyping up and talking about how Matt Ryan was this elite quarter back, 7 weeks into the season and it’s “good news Matt Ryan is being benched”, Matt Ryan is now “old” and done instead of the “military Matty Ice” that the colts were apparently getting.
