Hello everyone! Beside talking about interesting modules and topics, this year I’ll expand my videos with a few new ideas. Today I kick off the “Patch of the day” series! In these videos I take you along patching up a little concept or idea, instead of spending a lot of time covering a topic in depth. Feel free to let me know what you think about these!

Ha, that's good to hear! Cv mixers are great in my opinion, and indeed use quite a lot of mixers in general. The Happy Nerding 3xMIA is my favorite tool for a lot of things. But can also be a 3x 2:1 mixer.

Please do not change anything in your voice as a result of this feedback. My philosophy is that English is a language best spoken mangled. I was a DJ on KROQ/Los Angeles for 37 years. So when you say ‘dis’ and ‘dees’ for this and these, it is close to my heart. ❤

Great video, thank you! I sat down and made a variation of this patch using the 3xMIA as a CV-attenuator/mixer. I think it has the advantage over the Triplatt that it can mix up to 6 attenuated/inverted gates and has three outputs with 2/4/6 signals mixed, if you link its stages. You could of course use cascading VCAs to automate the blending of the different gate signals... Endless possiblities based on this simple but clever idea. I hope you will release more videos like this.
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment! I love the 3xMIA, there's one in this same case even. I picked the triatts for clarity, but would use the MIA otherwise as well. Automating the motion with VCAs is a lovely idea, so much possibilities there! Glad you liked it :)

I think this way to make the videos are way more illustrative and clear , its easier to follow would be great if u can do some patches , going back to your previous video introduction to generative music and see how u patch that concepts and ideas because with the animated illustrations it`s kind of difficult would be great ... keep up the great works big Hugh ....

Thanks for the comment! I like it to. With the flowcharts though I am able to share a lot more ideas in a shorter time. In other videos I do 10/15 ideas, also a lot of people like those. But this way I can pick some examples and show them in more depth. Hope to get to please both sides this way :) Cheers!

Hello, Excellent content, Question: Do you think I can use a CLOCK DIVIDER (4MS) and control the GATE with the Intellijel Shifty in replacement of the doefper A-160-2V module that you use?
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, glad to hear you like it! The 4ms clock dividers are nice, as far as I know they all do triggers though. But of course you can still use those to trigger AD envelopes. For the melody you would need a few different gate patterns. I'm not so familiar with the shifty, but as long as those gate out's can produce a few variations, you can give it a swing!
@effiksmusic

Very interesting patch. How are the VCOs tuned? As a mixer for the gates of the clock divider I could imagine a T43 Precision Adder from vpme could also be interesting too.
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Ah, think I tuned the T-zed a fifth above the Dixie. As for mixing you need a mixer with knobs to attenuate the incoming gates. No need for precision adders, because the signal is quantized after mixing!
@effiksmusic

@@MonotrailTechTalk your right, no need for the precision adder. I will experiment with this patch idea. Thanks for the video.

Great patch! I'm a bit confused about the part with the clock divider. How does one choose where the different divisions are going? Is there some sort of musical theory behind or is it more a musical feeling thing aka try'n'error until it sounds good?
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Hello Manuel, not sure what you mean there exactly? Where the divisions are going, is done with the patch cables of course. What divisions are created is set on the divider. Different brands/modules have different options. If you mean what they are doing tonal. Think of each of the gates coming from the divider as either leaving the pitch as it is (gate off) or pitching the oscillator up (gate on). How much the oscillator is pitched up is set with the knob on the mixer, attenuating the incoming gate signal. It gets more confusing, and interesting when multiple (in this case 3) gates are working together, and partly overlapping/adding to the amount the oscillator is pitched up. Don't know if this is clear enough :)
@manuelsteinmair

@@MonotrailTechTalk It seems I still have to learn more english to bring my exact thougt to text... I do get the technical part, where the gate signals from the divider go to and what they are doing. The flow chart is great! But thanks for writing that again! My question is how do you decide where the different outputs from the devider are going. Does it follow some sort music theory, intuition or just random until it sounds good?

Ah yes, that makes sense, sorry for misunderstanding. In Englisch, because other people might like it: Yes, that is a bit of trial and error. Both for the melody and rithm I thought it would be interesting to match even and uneven numbers. Like a clock and a divide by 3 gives nice shifting results ets. But mostly it's jus ttrying some divisions and see what happens. In the three examples before the flowchart I use a few different divisions. Also that's why I like to use the stackable cables. I can repatch and even use the same signal for both melody and envelope if I like

Great series. I will follow. This month i was thinking about catching a doepfer clock divider for gates. Does anyone know if the a-160 outputs gates o just clock? (Not the 160-2 which does)
@MonotrailTechTalk
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, glad to hear it! :) The a-160 sends out gates, not triggers. If you like to pair the a160 with the a161 it's interesting. Otherwise I would really recommend looking into the a160-2, that offers gates or triggers (with a switch on the front), more division outputs at the same time, and a switch to set between regular 2/4/8/16/32/64/128, as well as 1 to 8 and prime numbers divisions. I'd say those options are worth the extra €30.
