Another weakness kripp forgot to mention about evasion is physical damage spells. Spells will always hit and since you do not have any damage reduction (armor) and there are no resists for physical damage they will always hit you for full damage. Spells with physical dmg are for example bear trap, detonate dead and ethereal knifes.

Kripp Dude, about blocking, by your definition, there's always gonna be a stunned effect (unwavering stance not considered). which is not even logical nor correct. stunned or not only depends on 200*damage/Max life,blocking itself has nothing to do with stun.

Hi Kripp. I'm playing HC 57 melee shadow with full energy shield, and i'm shitting my pants so much cause I feel i'm close to dieing alot, and I can't add energy shield if low, like you can with life. I know you don't play any full energy shield chars, but was wondering if you could try somehow to give some tips about playing with energy shield. Problem for me is I feel like I have to run out of combat alooot (tbh everytime energy shield is under 60-80% depending on mob)

Most of the info he has and other people have is straight from the developers and the forums. The PoE forum has a thread called the "Mechanics Thread" with official, verified information. For example, the entire workings of evasion is a quoted dev post in that thread. The formulas for status ailments and stuns are on there, armor formula (which is how we know it's bad against big hits), and all kinds of other stuff. I suggest you take a look.

Kripp, I am a lifelong gamer and I have taken a lot of math up through multivariable calculus and differential equations, etc, but I still don't understand how you can get enough information to theorycraft effectively. There are many assumptions I would have made about how stats work, etc. that are just wrong according to this vid. Do you do your own testing in-game or do you get info from official forums or what?
@glowyrm
11 жыл бұрын
How? Not sure what you mean. He used the Auras and they turned on. If you mean how can he SUSTAIN them, it's because he has insane mana regen. He regens all of his leftover mana every second, something like 260 per second, so he only needs to have ~200 mana total and can devote the rest to Auras. Eldritch Battery also contributes because the mana you gain from EB does NOT count towards the calculation for mana reserved from Auras (could change, either way EB's still a big boost to mana regen).
@glowyrm

Yeah Kripp, you are incorrect about Blocking. You only play the "block" animation if the attack you blocked WOULD have stunned you anyway. Block is very strong, there is ZERO downside to having it (besides lowered movement speed from shield). Also, if you block a projectile attack (attack, NOT spell, not without the keystone anyway) you also negate the STATUS EFFECT it might have inflicted, like Puncture/Shock/Frozen/Burned.

By your logic we wouldn't need teachers. You can read a textbook instead of going to class but chances are the person that goes to class to be taught will have a better understanding because few people actually learn better by reading and you are going to read information you don't need. Not to mention that they might not think to search "If I raise my block chance really high can I get stun-death'd?"
@blandwages6109

The point is that it's a lot more fun (attachment to character, intense moments, urgency, etc), and that the economy is a lot more stable due to items actually leaving the market when players die (and also a better market for leveling items). Also, a dev in global said himself that when you do something impressive on softcore, then it's not really impressive. On hardcore you actually get some recognition from the community for doing something difficult. Lot more reasons too, honestly....
@Demilak
11 жыл бұрын
Because leveling in Diablo 3 isn't fun. It's horrible. In Path of Exile, there are so many build possibilities that even if you die, you can just reroll something else and it doesn't feel like you lost much. For this, Hardcore League in PoE is very appealing to many, myself included. Plus, it keeps an economy going. The economy in default league is a JOKE, even at this early stage in the game.

Would be nice if krip would elaborate on how much +% max life you should aim for in HC Merciless end game. Been playing since 2011, the community was so much better even just a few months ago. (quoting from my memory) Kripp's sense of humour owns me :) I had two HC chars, one died at lvl 20, another one at 30 so I decided to continue on scrubcore to know the game better. Lack of knowledge about what can actually happen to you is the biggest killer of hardcore chars.

Don't stand next to dead corpses if there is a corpse exploserer. That's the only defensive mechanic. It does flat physical damage and % of dead coprses life in fire damage. So armor and mostly fire resistant will reduce damage, not if the body had 1million gazillion life though, that shit is impossible to survive.

no - but there is 2 helpfull passives. Ghost reaver = Life leach applies to ES instead of health and another one, cant remember the name = life leach applies instantly, but you cant use life flasks These are a most for a ES builder, but you have to play offensive to gain the ES -that can be dangerous
@Tirinir

You are definitely goind to fail, if you have no other defences. This ES thingy is tricky, because you get some "pseudo-health" in the place of your armor and evasion. Also if you are Shadow, there should be "arrow dodging" down the skill tree, and it boosts defences against ranged enemies tremendously.

Resist is caped at 75%... however you can raise the cap (as shown in the vid) and once you gain in higher difficulties you get mali. i.e. in cruel you got -20% resist, the cap is still 75% but you need 95% to get there.
