Patient School - Fibromyalgia IX: Relationship between Fibromyalgia and Endocrine System
Fibromyalgia Endocrine System Relationship
Thyroid, glucose metabolism and reproductive system are affected in fibromyalgia patients. #Fibromyalgia, which is a group of diseases, also negatively affects the endocrine system. Some patients have been diagnosed with #Hashimoto's thyroid. Most female patients have undiagnosed hypothyroidism. Although laboratory test results are normal, there is a tendency to gain weight, pallor of the skin, and edema throughout the body.
There are fibromyalgia patients who develop resistance to insulin and reactive hypoglycemia. This picture, which is not high enough in the labs, manifests itself in the form of tiredness and frequent eating after a meal. This is sometimes considered a food intolerance. The effect of diffuse inflammation on the pancreas may be overlooked.
Since fibromyalgia is accompanied by widespread inflammation, organs of the endocrine system may also become inflamed.
