Regarding Swiss brutality: I've heard from a friend of mine that during his WK the Schiessplatz Hinterrhein (near St.Bernadino Pass, GR) was used by a civilian shooting club for long range practice. Which turned out to be to bend the feed lips up in such a manner as to allow the round to present high enough in the magazine for the bolt to strip them out as well as allow the bullet tips to present high enough to feed with out snagging on anything. Come to think of it about half of my milsurps had some kind of feed issue induced by either laziness or incompetence of previous owners that turned out to be a relatively easy fix. See my M1 Garand video.

I'm not sure if that's confirmed or not, or a misunderstanding due to captured ammo stockpiles being used for training later (I'd like to know if there's any reliable sources confirming it). Some very interesting questions answered, thank you. I admit to having no shooting experience of the 1896 Winchester, but my 1892 copy probably has a similar lever throw (although I expect it is both lighter and smoother) and is far easier to operate in the prone position than any bolt action I have ever shot. In the club I shoot in everyone else has either an AR, an LM4 or a PCC and I match most of them round for round or beat them (in terms of both accuracy and speed) in aimed fire out to 100m for the first 10 shots. After that I am dead in the water. At longer ranges I will also struggle but since it will be virtually impossible to argue personal defence at such ranges longer ranges do not bother me.
@jic1
2 жыл бұрын
The 1892 is essentially a PCC, and would likely have a much shorter throw than the 1895, which was designed for full-power rifle cartridges. The 1894 would probably be a fairer comparison, although I have no experience of shooting any of the three.
@peterconnan5631
2 жыл бұрын

Best military boots I have worn are the Austrian Steinkogler Heavy field boots. They are heavy but not as heavy as you would think but damn are they comfortable. They can take a real beating as well. @@thebotrchap I was advised to get a size down as they ran big. I don't know if that was a joke or not but they where pretty tight. I could get one pair of socks on and even then it was still tight. I tend to get a size or two bigger normally and then simply bad out with more socks to fit. I think if I got 2-3 sizes up and then baded the boots out more they could work. They are still very unforgiving and thick and stiff. The soles are pretty terrible but they are rock solid. They aren't very water resistant which in the UK is a problem. I did hear about officers at the time saying the boots don't break in your feet break into the boot. Which just sounds painful. I did make an attempt to break them in by running up and down the garden and wearing them at work for a whole week, my feet didn't like it at all although they did get marginally mroe comfortable. Now I have religated them as an oddity of boots that look cool but aren't very comfortable otherwise. I will stick to my Austrian boots. Thanks for the reply though, it's interesting to hear what other people have to say about them. @@thebotrchap I couldn't get a sole inside them so I had rock hard leather soles and the metal nails sticking into my heel the whole time. I wish they would go back to making welted boots in some form and bring back the high craftsmanship but I know the budgets just aren't there these days and there is no will from the higher ups to relaly care enough. Also you can't shoot with lead (core) ammo into the ground anymore, so you would need to build some static bullettraps etc. Also for being able to shoot on your own land it has to be completely fenced in (not just some barbwire) and you have to garantuee to the governemnt that now bullet will leave your ground or may land outside. this automatically limits you in wht direction you can shoot or you need a big piece of land which you simply cant afford in switzerland for just to use it for shooting only.
