Myth 1. Knew a Danish bar owner in Karon (Phuket) who bar did quite well. One day I saw it up for sale, asked him why he was selling. He told me all he did was sit at the bar every night, drinking & smoking. He said he was selling for the sake of his health before it was to late.

A bar is a business and getting obscure drinks in just results in dead stock sat on a shelf. Anyone who knows how to make cocktails over here in Thailand, knows they are completely different to what tourists expect. A Mai Tai is sour with lime, not orange and pineapple. In other words stick to what you know what sells. Good video Mr Egg, from someone who ran a place in Pattaya 1988-1992.

You know when your Thai is good when Thai people you know only speak Thai with you. Many farangs say they can speak Thai, but their Thai GF or wives only speak English with them. Because they really can't speak Thai. That's even in tourist ghettos if you speak Thai well the bar girls will speak Thai with you if they know you. You will hardly ever hear Thai people bad mouthing you or gossiping about you in Thai, though I'm not saying it doesn't happen. The average Thai would rather speak Thai with you, that's if your Thai is good. As it's easier for them.

We drink a shed load of SangSom while there, but always take a bottle of something (unavailable in Thailand) I bring over. Can I ask how expat bar owners in Pattaya verify the age of their staff? Al Jazeera just released a video in the last day that suggest it is not controlled, particularly in Pattaya. It is fairly obvious walking down Soi 6 that many are underage. I didn't see much point asking a bar owner in that area.
@LePubPattaya
Жыл бұрын
We check iD and get them to sign that this is their iD card which we video. Can assure you that soi six does very strong checks and there are no underage there. Having underage girls is suicide. Heavy prison sentences and sex offenders register for the rest of your life. No worth it. You are safe all employees are over 20.
