The Paterson Baronetcy of Bannockburn in the county of Stirling was a title created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in 1686 for Sir Hugh Paterson, son of Hugh Paterson of Bannockburn who had acquired the Bannockburn estate. He was succeeded by his son, Sir Hugh Patterson, 2nd Baronet (d. 1777), a Member of Parliament who had to forfeit the baronetcy for participating in the Jacobite Rising of 1715.
The Paterson Baronetcy of Eccles in the county of Berwick was a title created in the Baronetage of Nova Scotia in 1687 for Sir William Paterson, Clerk of the Privy Council and Advocate Regent of Philosophy in the University of Edinburgh, son of John Paterson (1604-1679), Bishop of Ross. William was the brother of John Paterson (1632-1708), Archbishop of Glasgow.
