Saints had a fantastic team in '06 but for the most part were a combination of overseas players and top British players farmed from other teams. They were pushed all the way by a young Hull FC team half of which in the GF were home grown with two still in their teens on the bench. That extra difference in quality and a few injuries made a big difference in the final.

ynotnilknarf39 farmed from other teams? Where did Roby, Cunningham, Graham, Bennett and Wellens come from...? Even Gardner and Wilkin had to come through academy after being signed as kids. Silliest comment I’ve read.

Elliott Matthews it was still a silly comment. Especially as the Saints system is one of the best around and it the criticism came from a fan of a team that lives to pay over NRL 30 somethings to come over here.
@SePhO11

@@andylea2377 I agree Andy, every team has imports from other clubs and the NRL. Other than the big clubs; Saints, Wigan and Leeds all the other clubs tend to sign players deemed not good enough for the big 3, most of those clubs have a lot of players who started off at Saints, Wigan or Leeds. So for some to use this as a stick to beat Saints is rather hypocritical and born out of jealousy.

@andycasdmx Tony Smith's tactics are 1. hold down and 2. stray offside. Warrington are a good attacking team, but that's in spite of Smith. Saints have lost their flair a bit, but that's down to our knobhead of a coach at the moment. We'll be the ones to watch again in 2011.

@andycasdmx Potter doesn't command respect or inspire. The players call him Potter, not boss, gaffer or Mick. Reminds me of England with Steve Macca McLaren. Nice guy, but trying hard to be a mate, when it doesn't come naturally, not a winner. Look how easy his gameplans are for the opposition to read. Catalans have won at Saints last 2 seasons, playing the same tactics he did there? Also he looks too much like a miserable Kenny Dalglish mid 80's for me as an Evertonian to warm to him.

@TRIVIUMRULE999 Are you for real? 15's rugby is kick and clap. Wow, England's superstar best player can kick a ball from the half way line, big deal. You could have a 30 all draw and every point would be from penalties. Jonnybag Wilkinson wouldn't last 5 minutes in League. Best player for England recently, Jason Robinson. Look how easy it was for him, Farrell, Paul, Hape, Vainikolo to get into the England. B4 you say Gibbs & Davies played for Wales, there was barely enough welsh 4 a team.
