I met Paul when I was 8 years old at the Bartow Civic Center for Little League baseball in 1970. I was awestruck by the man. But his greatest achievement was spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ-our Saviour.

I first saw Paul at a local weightlifting event in Los Angeles. He was not competing but was in town for a public appearance. When introduced, he walked smiling onto the stage and proceeded to a loaded bar which the compeitors had failed at. He was in street clothes and regular shoes. He was wearing a wraparound jacket which were popular at the time. Without any warm up or bothering to remove his jacket, he stepped to the bar and pressed it military style twice. I don't remember the weight but it was over 350. I was at the Olympic trials in San Jose in 1956. Although Paul was obviously the strongest weightlifter competing, He had some sort of infection that affected his balance. He staggered on his lifts and his winning total was far below his potential. Despite the problem, he emerged victorious and defeated Norm Schmansky and defending Olympic champ, John Davis. The problem persisted in Melbourne, but once again he overcame the dizziness to win the Gold. I still workout with light weights at age 88 and don't smoke or drink. You can't beat a healthy lifestyle.

I have to admit that I must rely on the press, since I don't know any athletes. Nevertheless, do you have the same opinion of boxers? football players? tennis players? Quabledistocficklepo, I understand, and No, I don’t lump the over the top Pomus attitudes of some boxers, bodybuilders, football players, basketball players, etc.. with the personalities of Powerlifters, Olympic lifters, and Strength Athletes/World Strongest man competitors. There’s just something about having to pull, push, press, & hold incredibly heavy objects that tends to humble a man, & gives the man an ability to be extra focused at the task at hand, & there’s not much room for foolishness when you realize that you’re one lifting accident away from serious injury.

People are always afraid of truth which challenges their own experiences and beliefs. Islam does not evoke fear because it is obviously a false religion. But, a man who claims to be God and rises from death to prove his claim is a concern. What if he were truly who he claimed? For 2000 years people have asked Pilate's question, "what of this man, Jesus?" Like Pilate most, who think themselves educated and well informed, wash their hands of him and never investigate his claim.

Paul could've attributed his gifts and feats of strength to any Gods, stars, suns, moons, planets or deities and he would still have been the strongest man of his era. Everyone has a gift to share with the world. It is our duty to recognize, develop, and nurture that gift and share it with the world regardless of our religious beliefs. Genesis 1.26 Then God said, _"Let _*_US_*_ make mankind in _*_OUR_*_ image, in _*_OUR_*_ likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."_

To any that badmouth or think less of Anderson for his religious beliefs, I say this: It's simply a product of him being born where he was, which was in the Bible Belt of the U.S. If he had been born in the Far East, he'd have been Buddhist or Hindu; the Middle East, he'd have been Muslim; if Italy, Mexico or New Jersey, then he'd probably have been a Catholic. If California, then he might have been an atheist. Can't blame him for where he was born, nor what he was exposed to as he grew up. But none of that stuff detracts from his accomplishments in the slightest. You don't have to agree with someone to marvel at their capabilities. I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that you don't agree 100% with everything any one of your idols says, does or believes, so why should this guy be any different? And as for the documentary turning into "Christian propaganda," if it bothers you, simply stop watching at that point. Problem solved.

mrRunist No I can't. But in the same way no one can disprove the existent of: Easter Bunny, Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy, Goblins, Trolls, Hobbits, Dragon, Hydra, Thor, Spiderman, Superman, Angels, Daemons and so on. But is it reasonable to believe in all this myths, legend & stories just because we can't disprove it to 100%?!
@mrRunist
9 жыл бұрын
robin L Of course we can, it's not the same. In order to verify something you must ask two questions: 1.) Do we have reason to believe it? 2.) Do we have reason not to believe it? Do we have reason to believe that such entities named are non-existent and do we have reason to believe such entities are existent? Let's take a look at Santa Claus as that is the most common example: We do not have reason to believe that Santa Claus exists as he has never appeared on our Chimney and no gifts have ever been handed to us by an unknown benefactor. Santa Claus' workshop has also never been found, despite its known location. All these and more are indicators that Santa Claus does not exist. Now, do we have reason to believe that Santa Claus does exist? No, we do not. Being told that he does does not count as sufficient proof. And even though any evidence for his existence would be found, I'm sure the evidence against would outweigh it. The same inquiry can be used to determine whether God exists: Do we have reason to believe God exists? Yes. There are a lot of indicators for the existence of God. For example the Kalam Cosmological Argument: www.reasonablefaith.org/kalam The Fine-Tuning argument: kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqZ_z32XfGachXY The Teleological Argument: www.philosophyofreligion.info/theistic-proofs/the-teleological-argument/ And a lot more. Now what reason do we have not to believe God exists? I'm don't any evidence which leads to the conclusion that God does not exist. I was not saying that you should believe something just because you can't disprove it 100%. On the contrary. I was saying that one needs to weigh out the arguments to see if it reasonable. But, what you were saying was to NOT believe something just because you can't disprove it 100% and that is just as bad. It is clear that the existence or non-existence of God is impossible to determine 100%, but what I was saying was to look at what is most probable, outweigh the evidence for and against, and then make a conclusion.

I wash my hands of the entire mess down there...I need to relax somewhere no 'smart-ass' will pester me with questions I don't know how to answer...BECAUSE TO ANSWER WOULD REVEAL MY 'CREATION' IS 'IMPERFECT'AND I AM PERFECT! "I AM THAT I AM" and do what I damned well want to!"** ( uh...'Baptists' are a schism of Catholicism , and your declaration of 'They know nothing about God' IS COMPLETELY OBTUSE! Do 'they' have a 'different Book' perhaps? Like the 'Book of Mormon' maybe?) You can write Biblical scripture all you want to...next time, try and remember the 'Judge Not' aspects of Christianity before 'condemning other Christian faiths' as-if you yourself were the 'Holy See' and know which is right! YOU DO NOT, and just revealed it!

Gerry Nightingale if you have a problem with it, that says more about you than them. Kind of like someone being very uncomfortable about a topic they feel guilty about. Your subconscious is talking to you in an uncomfortable way. That's what you feel. You just have a very illiterate way of expressing it.

So how is it he did everything he had done prior to 'finding god"? How did the heathen accomplish all that without god in his life? So he made it to the Olympics by...what, accident, the devil? Then he found god and it all depended on god from that point on? He couldn't get through a day without Jesus? What on earth got him through all those days prior to that? Sign me up! I done been saved too! Gimme some o' dat god stuff! How da hell I been livin all dis time?

Larry Maloney Im saying, up to a point not many years ago i thought that i was too, but then i got to see more about things than i ever had to that point. And now i know, believe or however you perceive it, that there are always powers greater than myself at play in everything going on. Thatd all. I believe we will all one day know

Robert Markie you lames always think you can use Jesus against us by saying things like that. Sorry to burst you bubble but God gave us the ability to defend ourselves and more importantly He gave us the ability to defend Him. You’re a moron and that’s fine but don’t push your nonbeliever crap on me and I won’t push the almighty God you on! Enjoy your life chaos and turmoil.
