The University of Notre Dame Football program has more fans and annual viewers than 75% of the teams in the NFL. They're such an influential brand, they simply don't see any reason to join a conference. Look at the schedule they're able to create as an Independent.. They play THREE of the TOP FIVE teams in the preseason rankings. No other team is able to come close to that, even if they play in the SEC. Finebaum is so salty. It's rather comical. And FYI - Big Ten analysts have been calling this for years. The Big Ten blueprint is expanding into top-25 media markets with AAU schools with diverse sports profile. ESPN laughed when the Big Ten got Rutgers and Maryland, but the media money in the NY & DC markets proves it was the smart move as revenue increased nearly 50% over 3 years, and now RU & Maryland have been in Final Fours in 3 Sports, and have multiple individual National Champions, and both are top-25 overall athletics programs / departments. For the Big Ten, it's never been all about football like it is for the SEC. Getting USC/UCLA gets them the #2 media market, and locks down all of the top-4. They'll soon be in #6 (Stanford / Cal), #14 (Washington), #16 (Colorado), and #24 (Oregon). Right now they're trying to lure Notre Dame and figure logistics around it, but if that doesn't happen, they'll get all the prime AAU schools from the Pac-12 and move to 18 or 20 teams for the 2024-45 season. Once the SEC convinces Clemson, Miami, and/or Florida State to jump ship there, the Big Ten will respond and make a play for Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, and/or Pittsburgh. By 2030 or so there's a very real possibility that the Big Ten is a 28-team super-conference with 4 Divisions (Atlantic, Great Lakes, Great Plains, Pacific) and it's own 4-team playoff championship. And the thing is, the SEC will likely be a 20 to 24 team football powerhouse as well, and they'll arrange their own NC game with the Big Ten Champion independent of any BCS meddling. By 2030 they'll probably add Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma State, making them the I-10 Almost Coast to Coast Conference.

Two Thoughts: College football becoming minor league football is more likely to turn off audience than gain ratings. No one watches the G-league or minor league baseball. The Noles have been irrelevant for quite some time. I admire your passion for your team, but it's a bit unrealistic.

Someone needs to regulate moves like this. All of these moves are football oriented and only provide gains for that area of the athletic department. Stuff like this has to be regulated. I see no gains for any other sport besides football. Provide rationale for this besides football and I'll try to see your point. LOL!!

Not at all. Historically, the SEC has made liberal moves in college football (conference championship game, divisions, paving the way for BCS and CFP) while the B1G fell behind clinging on to tradition.
