So sad to think that you were suffering in silence while bringing us so much healing and happiness with your music 🙏😞

If I could go back in time and be in that park at night to stop him and get him help then I would. Sadly I no doubt wouldn’t be there the next time he attempted it. The frighteningly intelligent and talented of us tend to not want to stick around.

...i too am a musician who suffers with depression and it's a real struggle to jst exist ....not looking for sympathy....jst know that no matter how another person may carry themselves ....they can be minutes away from ending their lives......G-Bless....

Maybe most musicians are depressed. I am also a musician and I was only recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder and it's sorta awful cuz I could be happy one second and the next second, I can feel like I wanna slit my hands. But I take my meds and that helps. And playing music helps. But I think some anti depressants can make it worse. I think of depression as like having the flu. You gotta take extra rest, and be kind to yourself, eat well, sleep well(that's a big one for bipolar people but anyone really), create art, exercise if you can (aim for just 10 minutes or less just to get that endorphin fix), watch live comedy shows, meditate, hang out with friends (I don't have any so I gotta be inventive and try to have fun by myself).

Paul Hester was crucial to CH. I don’t believe reforming was the right thing to. In the end I guess it was always Neil’s baby. Zeppelin had the right approach after Bonham died.

Absolutely. That trio were magic. I followed a Split Enz up to the departure of Tim. I bought the Crowded House album the day it came out in 1986. Saw them live several times between 86 and 93. Paul made the live shows awesome. Most memorable moment was at the State Theatre in Sydney. Girls were screaming and Paul said to them, with the command of a headmaster “you can only scream if you’re being murdered” . the screaming stopped. He was kind of Lennonesque in his wit. Sound corny but I feel quite empty when I think of him. But watching these clips reminds me of the energy he left for us. Paul was super intelligent.

He really was too smart to be a drummer. Maybe that was the problem. Man, is he missed.
