Interesting how the 'Pacific Symphony' came to be. There were a number of musicians from Los Angeles, including the L.A. Phil., and some other groups who commuted from Orange County, California. Melodyland, a theater-in-the-round near Disneyland, in Anaheim, was the area's attempt to bring classical music to the growing county. I remember violinists Adrian Holland, who was my teacher, and Giacinto "Joe" Nardulli, who was the teacher of several of my classmates. I was privileged as a teen, to be in the 1st section, violins. Melodyland featured light comedy stage shows, and we were in the pits playing for many of Hollywood's well-known actors, comedians, and vocal performers. Melodyland only lasted a few years, then I went away and came back 4 years later and Melodyland Orchestra had somehow morphed into the Orange County Symphony. I don't know much about the intervening years, but that was the genesis of classical music in orange grove land. I think the OCS grew into becoming the Pacific Symphony. Little things can grow with the right soil and nutrients. The insignificant became very significant. It's a world class orchestra now, and draws the best of the best. Paul, it was really great to hear Kreisler and Ysaÿe on Wieniawski's violin !! Now there's a melding of some great history.
