I had just gotten a traditional cello. ( I usually play a Luis and Clark carbon fiber cello) and i decided that my new baby needed its own bow. So i went to my local violin shop and tried a number of pernambuco bows and allowed me the one i picked to try at home. I then came back and again tried a lot of tbe other bows and the bow that brought out the sound of the cello was the one i tried at home. I now had 5 bows ( i also have an electric cello). I had tried playing my new cello with the other bows and there is HUGE difference!

Bingo! A decent bow for a beginner is of equal importance to having a decent cello rather than a knocked around school cello with a scratchy bow that slithers over the strings with unrosined squawking! My German trade cello cost, in1970, $NZ220 and the bow, stamped Lupot (likely not genuine but still good) cost $60; large sums for a beginner then, but worth it.
