I agree. My favorite post-Beatles songs (Well, one of them at least) Then you have John Lennon's prolific library of songs. Double Fantasy was his last great work. All too soon, and so unnecessary. Bless these men for giving us the gift of music.

Rock critics are awful. I see right through them. A journalist usually has no ear for music, so they focus on lyrics, since they are good with language. If the lyrics don't give them anything to write about, they usually say it's a bad song. Also, the elite level of rock critics, especially in the 70s/80s, expected every band or artist to not just submit to an interview, but to _court_ them, to _cultivate a relationship_ with them, give them backstage passes and advance copies of the records, all sorts of privileges. To be buddies with them, essentially. John Lennon usually entertained journalists, with his strong ideas and clever wordplay, so they adored him. I think Paul knew he didn't need them. I'm not sure how he handled the press. His interviews weren't exactly the most entertaining tings in the world. It makes sense that they would bash him and elevate John. I actually like John better myself, but I also believe Paul's been badly treated by the critics. And whoever said Paul gets shit merely for being alive, when John is dead -- I'm certain that's true.
@BenCulture

Ben Culture P.S. If a critic is also a musician, or ideally, a musicologist, they will have a _vastly_ different outlook, and a whole different set of favorites. Anybody who truly knows music knows, the Sex Pistols weren't nearly as interesting as Pink Floyd, for example, and that the Beatles were far better than the Stones. I think the only _real_ competition the Beatles had were the Brian-Wilson-Beach-Boys, and The Who! I mean in terms of musical quality, not sales or chart positions.

This is as good as anything The Beatles ever put out. In my opinion, this is Paul's greatest song, such an eclectic mix of different moods, both sad and tragic (the moment you hear rain and thunder 0:27 used to send chills down my spine as a kid) then suddenly upbeat in tempo with trumpet lead and chorus "Hands across the Water." Certain songs will always transport me back to my childhood. Todd Rundgren's "Hello It's Me" is one, this is another.

this had to be the best years of Pauls life. His time with Linda and the children. Its hard that times pass. It happens to us all, but that doesn't make it any easier. love the ones you love now.

Yes, back in the day at North Avenue Beach! I lived in "New Town' (now " Lakeview") back in 73-77! Spent enough time at the lake. I love this song, especially the Uncle Albert part. I can only explain it as "floaty." It just floats. Amazing music.

True that, Katherine....the atmosphere then was lite ,compared to now,when everyone seems angry about something,and its reflected in everything: music,TV,movies,etc.

We had no 24/7 "news" channels, that pushed fear to keep viewers "tuned in"...We had no propaganda based AM radio stations, AM was all music. When there was commentary or opinions they had to be balanced with opposing views.

I was in grade 6 when this came out, and my teacher Mr. Wrightman was a musician and loved this song. He pulled the piano in from the hallway and taught all of us this song. So much fun. Sir Paul is most definitely my favorite artist.

This song is an unbelievable achievement... it is to the ears what a Salvador Dali painting is to the eyes... complex yet simple, totally majestic around one corner and whimsical around the next. The time changes, arrangement and melody are simply brilliant.

I’ve been hearing this song for the past month being played over the speakers at my job... i had a hunch that it was a Paul tune, but didn’t confirm it until a day ago. now I’m so freaking stoked when it plays. usually comes-on at least 2 or 3 times a day, but whenever anyone on the floor complains about it i always try to educate them on how they’re literally listening to a former Beatle as well as how great it is that even to this day we’re being blessed with their music being played.

This is showing Paul doing the Beatles all by himself. Challenging times for him with all that fame then going solo and kids fatherhood etc but he still kept writing. I always loved this song. Especially the the first half. I can now hear Linda singing the dreammy harmonies. Must have been a great time recording this for him.

What happy times the McCartney family had back then! I hope he is happy today, of course, but I think it could never be the same as this.. extra bonuses :) I love the part where he and Linda are running fast on their horses. She was such a natural beauty.. they sure went well together, with similar ideals and desires, it seems.

When I first became sentient, 3 or 4 years of age, this man dominated the radio air waves. And his music was/still is beautiful. I love him! He made the soundtrack for my earliest childhood memories. God Bless You, Sir Paul McCartney, and your other beautiful bandmates. I cannot thank you enough for the memories.

This song immediately transports me back to summer 1971. I was 15. Amazing how songs can connect you to the distant past and evoke old emotions or feelings form those days. Mom and dad were alive etc. But of course none of ate "Better Pie" which has nothing to do with anything. the whole song is sheer nonsense, but fun. Everyone was singing "We're so sorry Uncle Albert" and "hands across the water. hands across the sky" and learned how to annoy everybody especially the teachers singing it in the hallways between classes, which was lots of laughs at school in early fall.
