Amazing what he pulled off recording in a shack of a studio in Nigeria with the 3 members, then to become one of his best selling albums!

What makes this album more amazing is that it was recorded with only three band members playing on it. Paul, Linda, and Denny Laine. The guitarist and drummer left the group prior to it’s recording. Paul ended up playing bass, percussion, drums and most of the lead guitar. What a talent.

Besides all that what Paul McCartney is (one of the greatest songwriters in history - that includes the classical ones, a fantastic bass player, a mastermind in production, an innovator during his Beatles period in the Sixties) let‘s not forget that he is an incredible singer! That he proved especially during his solo career: songs like „Jet“, „Maybe I‘m amazed“ and „Let me roll it“ show him in his prime as a singer! To me the singer Paul McCartney is often overshadowed by the songwriter. But in the seventies with the large Wings tours he seemed to find his identity as a singer. Listen to the „Wings over America“ album. His singing is simply unparalleled. I never worked with a male singer that came even close to his range. Let‘s not take this for granted, folks!

I always loved Paul's music. My Mom was crazy over his music, and song writing skills. He is one of my musical influences. I think that it is funny that he had all of those marching sounds, etc. in the song but you really can't hear it unless you are listening really hard. Maybe they did stuff like that to get you to pay closer attention to the song?

Dear Ken: Loooonnnggg time subscriber here. Yes, we do have to explain to the 'youngsters' who the seminal greats are. I'm 61, fighting Stage IV Metastatic Prostate & Bone Cancer. As a drummer & percussionist 1st, followed by a good basic grounding in keys, guitar, bass & a love for *_ALL_***, as FZ (Frank Zappa) said, to ONE of the TWO 'Muziks' "good" & "bad", lol... I.E., the "GOOD" music. That's all the kind of music you cover, along with others like Rick Beato. Notice I didn't include "singer" in my list of musical training, as that training was informal & sketchy at best. Fortunately, I *was* able to sing somewhat on pitch naturally, and I nearly always got the job as "THAT DRUMMER THAT SINGS!", lol. No Don Henley am I, but close enough for the semi-pro set that played weekly 'house-gigs' back when that was a thing. You're an ageless wonder with you voice & a constant inspiration- especially on the bad cancer days. Much Peace, Ken. You deserve it! 👨🎤

Hey Ken, big fan. It would be so cool if you could look at the live version of this.Wings over America. No double tracking. At times he is very slightly off pitch, by slightly I mean it barely registers to my ear. He also improvs a lot, and I think the improvisations give a good glimpse into the original composition of this song before he had to get it "studio ready". I do not know if it is copy protected or not. Very rarely do I hear a live recording that is better than the studio. IMO this whole album (Wings over America) is better than the studio versions. Greetings from the 'burbs of Houston

Thanks, Ken! What might be interesting is hearing your take on Linda's background vocal work on this and other Wings tunes we all know. Most of us are familiar with the live take of "Hey Jude" where some smart guy soloed her vocal channel, which turned out to be, um, "interesting" let's just say that. But did she have decent singing skills in the studio?

Recorded in Lagos Africa, Paul saw there was an EMI studio there...Denny Seiwell and Henry McCullough didn't want to go to Africa and quit the band...all music was performed by Paul, Linda and Denny Laine, with some overdubs added in much later in London.. it was hurricane season, Paul and Linda were ribbed at knife point ( might have been gunpoint, I can't remember) and the thives took all the demos... found out when they got there, there was an outbreak of Cholera....Paul said it was a real fight to make that album

The older I get, the more I appreciate the individual Beatles, as a band. And for their solo work. Paul ALMOST sounds current, but, he's too organic. Not plastic. I'm not sure a 30yo McCartney could stand tie to toe with an Ed Sheeran, or even the tattoo face ( insert adjective ) Post Malone, with today's production preferences by young listeners. But there is no denying his musicianship, writing, arranging, production of the time, voice, singing, innovation, and engaging entertainer skills. There's a lot to be learned from the trailblazers.

Hey, Ken. I have wanted to ask you about some singing stuff. Where can I ask them? If here is okay, here’s my question; I have a lot of trouble to sing good on my own, but when I put on a song and sing along, I breathe good, sing good and I can sing for hours, but when I do it myself, my throat hurts, I have bad singing technique. How do I fix that? I have tried for so long
