I don't think I've ever heard Paul be so candid when describing his thoughts and feelings about John. It's no great revelation but he's quite direct here when he said he was troubled and complex. It must have been a fascinating dynamic between the two of them to observe. The sensible, driven Paul and the troubled, complex John. The love, respect, tension, collaboration and competition between them really pushed their creativity to higher and higher levels.

I'm a huge, obsessive Beatles fan, and TLAWR is my least favorite song of theirs. The original Let It Be version is just awful. But when it came out on the Let It Be Naked album, it wasn't so bad, with all the strings and garbage removed. Here, just him and his piano, better still. It isn't a rock song, so it doesn't need a rock band behind it. This version here is the best I've ever heard; I can definitely appreciate it. This rehearsal reminded me that being a true celebrity means living a hellishly banal life. By this point, McCartney would have answered the “What was John really like?” question x100K, and it would be as welcome as having hot pokers shoved into his eyes. He looks extremely bored, and both look uncomfortable. You would truly cease to be a normal human being, and watching this reminds me that being a celebrity would be an utter nightmare, as you’re completely trapped like a caged animal at a zoo. You can also see that his music is how he keeps a safe distance between himself and the world. So, you can never be yourself, you never have any privacy, everyone wants something from you, and no one around you is genuine. Not worth it for all the money in the world.

I think Elvis was jealous of the Beatles song writing talent and hence the somewhat cold shoulder they got when they met him as one of their heroes. Elvis thinking, they come over here (US) with their No1 hit and think they are the bees knees.

His voice was already giving out at this point. He really lost a lot of his vocal richness starting in the 90s. I think it’s all that shredding of his vocal cords when he was younger. Still love Paul, though.

I wonder if Parky did this sort of warm up before the Meg Ryan interview went out ! I doubt it somehow !!!
