In the early - mid 1970's, McCartney was criticized at times by John Lennon and music critics for writing light, seemingly senseless pop songs about love. Music critics were even questioning McCartney's ability for writing great music like he had done earlier in his career. This song was McCartney's answer he gave to those "brilliant" music critics. "Silly Love Songs" topped the charts that entire Spring/Summer of 1976, and finished the year at #1 in Billboards list of best songs of 1976. At #1 longer than any other McCartney post Beatles song? Yep, it's "Silly Love Songs." On a side note, the beginning of this song sounds to me like a factory making and churning out "silly" love songs. Silly love songs? Keep them coming, Mr. McCartney. We'll take them all.

A genius will always be misunderstood. We have a sentence in Mexico: "a nail that protrudes, receives a hammer". That might be McCartney story-of-his-life: can you imagine being him at 9, among fellow mates, all tough football players, bullies and everyone at school hearing his singing voice?

Ever noticed how in the middle of the song, there are 3 different silly love songs going on at the same time? Yeah, its a little hokey, yeah, but the point IS that no one ever gets tired of them. I think the line "How can I tell you about my loved one" is truly profound, because even though love is universal, no one else ever knows what the love between two people is really like besides those two people.

That's kind of funny if its true, because I make fun of John's music for becoming pretentious utopian wankery. I mean Power to the People, or Give Peace a Chance? Lol, what nonsense. Sounds great when you're strung out, but once the drugs wear off, and you come back to reality, you realize that all the peace and love shit is not only impossible, its also undesirable, we'd all be so spoiled by the lack of character-building conflict, and suffering we'd turn into a bunch of narcissistic idiots... as we currently seem to be doing. At least Paul has the decency to leave his politics at home where it belong most of the time. I'll take a silly love song, over a pretentious "I know how things should be, and I'm going to change the world to make them happen the way I think they should, because my own arrogant belief is enough to convince me that I am 100% right, and I don't need logic, reason, evidence, or justification because, again, I know I'm right." song like at least 1/3rd of Lennon's Post-Beatles catalog.

Who is Lennon? lol....I mean really, the whole Paul died thing ??? That was during the height of their pre psychedelic era. IMHO, John died "musically speaking " while still in the end of Beatles age, as well as post. Really, the Plastic Ono Band should've been the first clue that clean and sober people recognized Paul still had "the sound", whether Beatle-ish or not. John could only "Imagine", and that was his last true hit until his 1980 album which took him back to his early Beatles roots. That album was a good effort, but still Yoko motivated. Accusing Paul of writing silly love songs is kind of ironic since the majority of tunes on that album were love songs or ballads. The album was good but it sounded like it was early Beatles demo writing without Paul. They both always said they completed each other. Paul was always positive and John took the negative, cynical, sarcastic edge to their songs. Take Paul out of the equation and you get protest, dated, boring rant. Paul was the only one who carried the sound we all loved post breakup. Ringo kept rather quiet, and George kept up his Indian, Bangladeshi transcendence schtick which also was dated, limited, and boring if you weren't high. Yes, Paul was bubble gum at times but here we are 4 decades after the Beatles, and we're still talking about Paul and hearing classics as well as new material. It was a crying shame The Beatles broke up. John called it off officially. His position was that of protest organizer/songwriter and the Plastic Ono Band was his excuse to move on. Paul tried to make it work with the remaining members but John refused to show up for recording with the rest of the band. He did his parts on his own and they mixed everything post. It finally came to a head with lots of arguments over songwriting and credits. John did it to himself. Now he's dead and you rarely hear his music post Beatles except for Imagine, Woman, and So This is Christmas. Well, at least you'll hear him once a year. LOL

I am a Beatle fan. Together they were fantastic. But they went on singularly and did alright! The times changed and they changed. It happens. This remains one of my favorites and makes me happy every time, Thanks, Paul!❤️

why is there so many hateful comments about people not liking this song? this song was made to spread love and peace, and people who dont like are just missing out on something great i still love them as much as i love people who like this song

I was listening to this on my way to school yesterday and tried to remember the name of this song when I got home. I was thinking "sweet love songs" instead of "silly." This morning I randomly remembered when getting ready and freaked out lol because I didn't want to lose the song. (I tried searching for over 2 years for the song "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty for the saxophone part.) Worst 2 years ever of not knowing the title.

Duh Herro Too bad I didn't know guys, you've been wondering the song name I've been singing this song since the age of 9 lol..along with most of "Wings" tunes Glad a new gen enjoys classic tunes. Silly Love songs reached number 1 for a few weeks in 1976 here, and also in Europe. Glee redo wasn't bad, But nothing beats the original.. Also Band on the run, My Love, Let'em in and don't listen to what the man said, also great!

Hey, maybe since you also had trouble not finding a song for a long time you'd be willing to help me out here. There's this one song I'm trying to remember that I know was a 70's that has a distinct electric guitar solo that is all that I can remember. It goes "dunna dunna dunna dunna dududah dududah dududah" As for the sing in this video, I love it and always have. It's an amazingvoice of work that feel timeless!

RFKFANTS67 No dice, but thanks for pointing me to a great song! I noticed that there was a small mistake in my earlier post wherein I forgot a word; it was supposed to read "a 70's rock song " and was definitely a bit more akin to the guitar intro to "Life in the Fast Lane" (but it doesn't seem to be that song). I hope it helps!
