David Nicholson Me too!! Maybe the BBC felt that they were "stuck" with him as the 8th Doctor because of the regeneration scene in the movie. And I think that they underestimated how many fans actually liked his Doctor. He is the one Doctor that I've always wanted to see in the post-2005 show. I've always wanted to see him brought into an episode and made a part of the TV series. And I'm so glad that they brought him back for "The Night of the Doctor". He wasn't just brought back for some meaningless fan-pleasing cameo...he gave us the darkest moment the show has ever had. I hope we see him again...a 3 or 4 part prequel series would be nice. :)

It's such a pity that we never got to see Paul on tv after the 96 movie; he really had potential. His audio 'appearances' in the Big Finish stories really prove this. I guess by doing 'the night of the Dr' he (and the fans) got some sort of closure.

what moffat did irks me a bit. his initial thoughts were to have christopher eccleston as the war Dr, rightfully seeing that thats what fans would want. eccleston declined, so the logical plan b would be to ask paul mcgann to be the war Dr. instead however he gets carried away by his own idea of a forgotten Dr and as a result McGann gets the shaft yet again.
@dayschange2

THANK YOU! I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing! If not 9, then 8 should have been the logical next choice for the war Doctor. Now the Doctors and their regenerations don't match up, and that bothers me so much. Whenever someone accidentally calls David Tennant the 11th Doctor, there's a tiny part of my brain that whispers, "Well, TECHNICALLY. . ." And that's to say nothing about the fact that Paul McGann is just brilliant. I hope that he gets another chance someday.

The interview took longer than the 'minisode'. A shame Paul didn't get more chances to be the Doctor on TV. Having finally acquired a copy of the TV movie, it's not as bad as advertised, though it has many problems. They tried to Americanize the Doctor, one of the most British of characters. But "Night" does get the storyline in place, from McCoy to McGann to Hurt to Eccleston.

Fortunely I did just that. If I had scrolled just a couple of posts further down I would have seen spoilers from every Dr Who fan-page I follow The biggest muppets regarding this would have to be The Sun newspaper who prior to the 50th anniversary episode being aired printed an "exclusive" about Tom Baker's cameo in the show.
