The " step-back " jump shot was one of Larry Bird's main weapons, especially with his incredible mid-range game; It also goes a long way to explaining why Bird's shot rarely got blocked. Big prop's and respect for you mentioning Bernard King, my favorite player from the late-70's all through the 80...nobody could guard 'Nard. Pierce just loves to stir up trouble with hyperbole, but he was a great, great player and one tough dude. Pierce was stabbed 11 times in September of 2000 at the Buzzclub in Boston; Allegedly talking to someone's girlfriend, that " someone " was a member of the " made men " crime gang. Pierce's life was saved when teammate Tony Battie literally picked him up(Battie was 6'11, 240lbs.) and carried him to his car and sped like hell to Tufts medical center. He was very lucky, and strong...and one month later he would start his breakout season, playing all 82 games and becoming the first Celtic since Larry Bird to score over 2,000 pts. in a season. " Inventing the step back jumper? " Paul does have a sense of humor.

Pippen in Pierce's face "Step back is enhanced today" You can tell Pippen is super intelligent, & Pierce is....... well....... If Pierce has to claim he's one of the best in xxxx, I'd say clutch shot maker. He made so many game winners / tie game shots in his days. More clutch than Kobe in FG%, game winners made

Larry legend stepped back a ton while shooting jumpers from players being able to hand check and get into opposition faces and how deadly a shooter he was , his shot was constantly contested. Players play the game and don't pay attention to history.

zzdh1 ooooooooo I must say I do recall that, I don’t remember if it was twice but I definitely remember that now that you bring it up. It’s interesting that the players that have been able to block his stepback, aren’t the tall, long and athletic defender like a Scottie or a Kawhi, but are actually “short” stout, athletic defenders.

I am glad this is being discussed because it's another example of how a player can get away with cheating. That and the infamous hook guys like to give especially driving baseline give an unfair advantage. In the long run defenders are opting to flop and risk being fined to not play defense.

He's just delusional and likes playing the fool on tv. We all know it. It's kind of mildly sad in that Paul Pierce was legitimately a great and borderline underappreciated player. He's doing himself no favors. But he seems to be doing what he wants, which is getting attention, so whatever. Best of luck to Paul Pierce. He did have a great career.
