Back in 2007, two composers, Paul Thomson and Christian Henson, pooled some money to record a bunch of musicians so they could use the samples. They were good enough for Harry Gregson-Williams to try it out, and many A-list composers wanted more libraries recorded in pristine, unprecendented quality. After Paul and Christian paid to record a groundbreaking percussion library at Air Studios in London, they learned most composers prefer to use their own percussion. That's when they decided to try to make their libraries available to composers all over the world, as Spitfire Audio. Today, they're revolutionized samples used by musicians with their creative experimental approach. (They're also now a sponsor of our sister show SCORE: THE PODCAST, now in its fourth season. But this is not a paid or sponsored post.)
This is the story of the risks two composers took that led to the creation of Spitfire Audio.
(We actually wanted to interview them earlier on Score: The Podcast, but didn't want it to look like a conflict of interest since they support that show! Enjoy the cool story of how these composers fell into entrepreneurship.)
