This was a time that English music had really reached such a zenith that it was encompassing so many styles - Rock, Salsa, Jazz, Soul, country..... Just amazing! such a shame that America & the rest of the world never really got it!

@@dddayesq5061 Unfortunately America didn't get *The Jam* or *Style Council,* I think they were agin anything with too much British iconography, same went for *Oasis* although *The Who* were the exception that proved the rule! Long been a *Weller* fan although I have it from a horse that was momentarily near to him's mouth that he was real c##t back in the day!

I was 16 in Liverpool Royal Court theatre in 1982, i saw the jam. Heartbroken when Jam split. Then Style Council came along, Paul Weller rules ok ❤️

Quite simply the master.of his generation. Outlasted or outlived his peers, putting out incredible and smart material. Punk, rock, power pop, pop, jazz, soul...you name it. As much as I love Strummer, Weller just made more music for a longer period.

The song is one of the best he's ever written but he's lost the beautiful quality that his voice had as well as its soul edge. It's a real pity that The Style Council songs are not recognised for just how good they are. Personally, this is when he was at his best and though he's continued to make good music since, nothing comes close to the old days of Mick, Paul and DC Lee performing together.

great song for those many difficult days. he did it at Brixton Academy a couple of xmas ago back to back with Eton Rifles. sang it as if he'd only just composed it that week. absolutely fantastic. finished with Thats Entertainment went off and came back and did Malice. best xmas present ever
